Artists often make the most beautiful works of art out of the simplest items. What would be an ordinary object to anyone else could easily become something beautiful in the hands of an artist.

This is the case with John Lopez and his scrap metal art pieces.

John Lopez is an incredible sculptor that makes his art out of old farm equipment! What some would see as trash, John uses to make his powerful works of art.

Growing up in South Dakota, Lopez was born on a ranch. After being exposed to the daily goings-on of life on a ranch, Lopez was inspired to pursue this subject matter with his sculpted works.

It was after the passing of his aunt that he realized how much he loved playing around with metal as a medium. John went on to pursue a successful career working with bronze.

Even now, his more traditional sculptures of rodeo and western themed bronze pieces are quite the success in the art world.

This steady stream of work and consistent support from his collectors is what encouraged Lopez to branch out and try other sculptural forms and experiment with all types of metal.

This is when John got the idea of using scrap metal to sculpt his pieces. While John's latest sculptures are still reminiscent of the Wild West, he now uses scrap metal to do it. He welds together sculptures of deer, cows, bison, bulls, and even cowboys riding bucking broncos!

In addition to being stunning and mind blowing, John's sculptures are eco-friendly and effectively reuse equipment that would otherwise be rotting in a junkyard.

Now days, Lopez' work is a mix of punk aesthetic, prominent geometric shapes, and the power and might of the Old West.

Lopez' genius work blends sustainability with the assemblage style of contemporary art. He pays homage to the past while putting his own spin on these creations. In his sculptures, you'll see crazy scenes like a cowboy on a dinosaur and a metal horse galloping away.

With art, there really is no limit with what can be created. Let us know what you think of Lopez' powerful sculptures by leaving your thoughts in a comment below!
