The Boston Herald recently reported that Eric Emond, a sergeant for the U.S. Army, had a strong desire to help the relatives of veterans who ended up paying the ultimate price.

Throughout this career in the military, Eric participated in seven different combat tours. Although Eric spent most of his time in the Army, the sergeant actually started as a Marine. He was a scout sniper and eventually transferred to become a Green Beret in the Army.

While Eric was in rehabilitation from his injuries in 2010, he came into contact with a nonprofit group attempting to raise money for a memorial that was dedicated to fallen soldiers. This project was perfect for Eric. Instead of supporting or investing in the nonprofit, Eric decided to become an integral part of the movement. The group was called the Massachusetts Fallen Heroes

According to the group's website, they memorialize and provide services for fallen soldiers and their family members. The group focuses on paying tribute to men and women who have served since the September 11th attacks. CBS Boston has reported that the residents of Fall River, Massachusetts were instrumental in the construction and funding of the 50-foot memorial that honors the state's fallen heroes.

In 2018, Eric tragically perished in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan reports CBS Boston. He was only 39-years-old. This fallen hero left behind a beloved wife, Allie Edmond, and three daughters. The Massachusetts Fallen Heroes organization had to reevaluate their normal process when Eric passed. Dan Magoon, the executive director told the Boston Herald that they decided that Eric would be honored as a co-founder of the group as well as a fallen veteran.

On the 24th of May, the 50-foot memorial was reerected with a new element attached. Officials helped to add a freestanding memorial that was dedicated to Eric. The glass addition included a picture of Eric smiling in his combat fatigues.

It's heartwarming to hear stories about veterans who are honored appropriately for their ultimate sacrifice. These brave men and women risk their lives on a daily basis to ensure we can continue enjoying our freedoms and current way of life. This story proves that people can show their appreciation to members of the armed forces.
