The old saying that "it's not the size of the boat but the motion of the ocean that counts" may be true when referring to a man's family jewels, but a new study performed by researchers at Erciyes University in Turkey shows that the size of a man's belly may have a big impact on their partner's satisfaction.

The study, which followed 200 men of which 50 percent suffered from erectile dysfunction (ED), found that men with a higher BMI (body mass index) were able to last three times longer in bed than men with a lower BMI.

Men with a wider mid-section took, on average, 7.3 minutes to reach an orgasm while men that were thinner around the middle only lasted an average of two minutes.

Additionally, study participants with a lower BMI were also more likely to experience premature ejaculation (PE) than participants who were considered a little overweight. Premature ejaculation is when a male reaches orgasm sooner than both he and his partner had hoped.

Researchers concluded that men with a higher BMI and bigger bellies carry more estradiol in their bodies, a sex hormone that is commonly found in women. Higher levels of estradiol can contribute to a longer time-frame between the start of intercourse and the concluding orgasm for men.

So what does this study mean for men of all sizes and their sexual partners? Although the results show that men with higher BMI's are more likely to take longer to reach an orgasm, researchers caution that being overweight can also contribute to a whole host of medical problems including heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

While those suffering from erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation may be tempted to put on a few pounds in order to prolong their sexual experience, researchers do not recommend that as there are many other ways to treat these types of health problems.

Treatment may include starting or stopping certain medications, quitting harmful behaviors such as smoking or drinking, and getting more physical exercise.

The good news is that for men who are a little self-conscious about the spare tire around their midsection, now that the secret is out that a higher BMI can contribute to a longer sexual experience, women might look at you in a new light.

Where before rock-hard abs were the deciding factor as to whether or not a man was considered to be sexy, this new study shows that a slight beer gut might actually be an advantage when it comes to one's sex life.

What do you think about this latest study? Does it surprise you that men with a little more junk in their trunk might actually last longer in bed than men with six-pack abs? If you're not ashamed to say that you're a proud man sporting a little muffin top or that you're attracted to the teddy bear type, be sure to spread the news that thin and muscular is out and big and sexy is in.
