As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had their son Archie christened in the Summer of 2019, Royal fans across the globe held their breath to hear the name of his godparents. Going against protocol, however, the couple decided to keep their names under wraps.

According to the Independent, Pettifer and Dyer were close employees to the Royal family since Prince Harry and his brother Prince William were children.

The publication reports Pettifer, (née Legge-Bourke) was a nanny for Prince Harry and his older brother in 1993 following their parents' high-profile separation.

The former nanny, who now runs a Bed and Breakfast, is said to have been extremely close to the two Princes, even referring to them as her “babies.” The 54-year-old attended Prince William’s Fourth of June celebrations at Eton in 1996 instead of his parents and is believed to have tagged along on a number of family vacations. Pettifer worked with the royal family until 1999, when she resigned and married former Coldstream Guards officer Charles Pettifer. She remained close to both Harry and the Duke of Cambridge thereafter and supported them following the death of their mother Diana, Princess of Wales.

Mark Dyer, the second man to have been identified as a godparent of Archie’s, was also a significant person in Prince Harry’s upbringing. The 53-year-old served as an equerry to Prince Charles in the 1990s and became a mentor to Prince Harry and Prince William following Princess Diana’s death.

According to the Sun, Harry is also a godfather to Dyer’s son Jasper, who was chosen as a page boy when he married Meghan in 2018.

Dyer is now a Trustee of Sentebale, a charity the Duke of Sussex co-founded Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006.
