Arby’s Staff Sees WWII Veteran At Same Table Every Day, Give Him Free Food For Life

World War II was the defining conflict of the 20th Century and one of the most important moments in the history of the United States.

During the war, political affiliation and partisan bickering faded away as the Greatest Generation put their lives on the line to ensure that liberties such as free speech and democracy could be enjoyed by future generations.

Those defenders of freedom deserve our respect and admiration, especially as they enjoy the quiet peace of their golden years.

Recently, one restaurant in Arizona found a special way of showing a veteran of World War II how much his sacrifices are appreciated by the current generation.

According to FOX5, Doug is a 97-year old veteran of World War II. A resident of Chandler, Arizona, Doug visits the local Arby’s restaurant everyday for lunch. Forced to use a walker, Doug explains that food from Arby’s is one of the few things that doesn’t hurt his stomach.

The staff of the restaurant greets him every day by name, helping him to a comfortable table and chair. If the aging veteran can’t get to the restaurant one day, a kindly employee will even drive a meal to his retirement home.

Appreciative of the staff’s attentive care, Doug knows everyone by name at the restaurant, even possessing each and every staff member’s phone number.

Early last week, the staff decided to do something special for Doug. Since the veteran has no family, the staff at Arby's looks at Doug as family. To show their great appreciation, the staff chipped in together to buy Doug a $200 Arby’s gift card.

Daniel Moloney was visiting the Arby’s when the on-duty manager presented Doug with the gift card and described the scene to friends on Facebook.

In a post that has since gone viral, Daniel describes how grateful Doug was to the staff, joking that each day he sits down at the restaurant he never knows if he’ll be able to return the next day.

After Daniel’s post went viral, Arby’s decided to raise their generous gift. Doug can now get free food for life at the restaurant. Speaking to a local news station, Christina Gamage, manager of the Arby’s in Chandler, said that Doug has gone through a lot as a veteran and deserves to enjoy his life.

Gamage added that other businesses in the area have since offered to help Doug, including an optometrist offering a free eye exam.
