As Memorial Day weekend approaches, it is important to remember the true purpose of the holiday. While most Americans look at the holiday as the unofficial start of summer and a time for barbecues and relaxation, its true purpose is to honor those who have fallen in service of our great nation.
Recently, a couple from New York had the opportunity to show their appreciation for the sacrifices the brave men and women of the United States military make each day and we can all learn from their example.
Alyssa Zehler currently serves in the United States Air Force as a medical administrator and is a proud mom of two. Zehler joined the Air Force in 2006 to honor her grandfather, who also served in the military.
Early last week, Zehler had graduated from a five-week training course at Niagara Falls Air Force Base and decided to go to lunch at Fuji Grill with 17 of her fellow graduates.

As Zehler and her friends celebrated their accomplishments, they were approached by a young woman who wanted to thank them for their service. The kind woman even took a group photo of them so they could remember the special occasion.
Speaking with reporters from WGRZ-TV, Zehler said that the anonymous lady was at Fuji Grill with her husband and three children, two boys and one girl.
Zehler and her friends thanked the woman for her kindness, saying that they greatly appreciated the show of support. As the group of Air Force men and women finished their meal and prepared to leave, they were met with an amazing surprise.
Staff from the restaurant told them that the couple with the three kids had actually paid for all of their meals and had even given tips to the servers and chefs.
Zehler’s party was shocked by the generosity shown to them. She posted the photo that the woman took to her Facebook and said that the couple’s kindness had brought tears to her eyes.
Thanking the anonymous couple for paying for her group’s meal, Zehler said that she will never forget the immense kindness that was shown to her and her colleagues. Since posting the photo, Zehler’s story has gone viral, having been liked over a thousand times. Zehler's heartfelt caption on the photo reads:
"To the couple that paid for 18 meals at Fuji Grill in Niagara Falls for lunch today, thank you. We are without words, and beyond grateful for your generosity. You brought some of us to tears and it is something we will never forget ❤️"
