Annoyed Woman Blasts Air Vent At Passengers' Faces If They Recline Their Plane Seat

Each passenger on a plane — regardless of whether one is flying economy or business class — deserves to experience a comfortable ride. If one wants to go for a specific seat, booking in advance is key. As they say, nothing beats a person who is always prepared. But sometimes, no matter how prepared a person is, there are situations that are no longer under anyone’s control, such as choosing the passengers sitting right in front of you.

If you’re a frequent flyer, chances are you have already encountered a passenger who reclines the seat all the way so that it takes up all the space in front of you, leaving you with no legroom to stretch or even move your body a bit. While some people can still manage to sit comfortably in such situations, it’s not the same for everyone.

A story published by The Washington Post discussed the valid reasons to recline a seat in an aircraft. These included if you’re traveling on a long-haul flight, if you’re sitting in front of a child, if you’re taking a red-eye, or if the person in front of you has also decided to recline his/her seat. Otherwise, it’s best not to recline your seat.

Understandably, the option to recline a seat is there to make the travel experience cozier for everyone. However, there's a time and a place to do so when it comes at the expense of others. When that does happen, of course, you can always let the passenger in front of you know how you feel about it. But not everyone has the courage to speak up.

The best way to deal with the situation is to approach a flight steward and inform them about your concern. But not everyone chooses to do this and instead, people often act on their own.

Take it from a woman named Fiona who shared her experience on the Australian radio show called Fitzy & Wippa. When she encountered a person aboard the same flight as her who reclined the seat in front, she acted on the situation by doing an act of revenge.

Fiona, who described the action as “inconsiderate,” said the secret to getting the other person to change their seat back to an upright position is to blast the air-conditioning vents in their face.

“When you’re flying economy, and the person in front of you is very inconsiderate and reclines their chair all the way back ... You know the air-con vents in the top? You can swivel them around,” Fiona said.

Of course, people had mixed reactions to the woman’s "life hack." Some people said it’s not inconsiderate at all since they “paid for it,” while others said people “recline for a reason.”

“How is reclining ones seat inconsiderate? When you pay for the seat, you pay for all its features,” a user said.

“I will never understand how it’s inconsiderate.. the feature is there for a reason. I never care when the person does in front of me,” another user said.

Meanwhile, there are those who agreed with her statement. “I just don't think the chairs should recline. period not unless they have more space,” one person said.

“They should remove the recline feature on planes. I once had a guy in my space for 14 hours,” another person said.
