Animal Shelter Will Not Give Up On Its Longest Resident Ever

When it comes with animal shelters, there are a number of sad stories that result in the workers of the shelter not being able to help or protect the animals that come into their care for one reason or another.

Sometimes, the animals that they get have just been abused to the point that they have to put down or they have been too malnourished, ending in the same result.

At the Gloucester-Mathews Human Society in Virginia, they have seen their fair share of difficult cases, and Banjo is a beagle mix that started his life in a forest near the humane society, and when he was captured, he was classified as a feral puppy.

This was back in November of 2016, and now, being almost 4 years old, Banjo is still living at the shelter, as he has never been adopted. Currently, he is the shelter's longest-running resident, and many of the workers there have become attached to him.

Luckily for Banjo, the Humane Society has taken it upon themselves to never give up on finding him a home, regardless of how long it might take.

According to WTKR, when he first arrived at the shelter, Banjo has been through a short life of nothing but neglect, and he was both fearful and timid upon arrival, but after four long years of tender loving care from the workers at the shelter, he has come a long way and made amazing progress. It took him a while, but now he spends most of his days curled up in the corner of the shelter in his personal kennel.

The executive director of GMHS, April Martinez, says that Banjo really shows his personality when he able to get out of the shelter and run and play, but due to how intimidating he is inside of the shelter, a lot of people who come to adopt shelter animals never really get to see his fun playful side.
