Animal Advocate Bursts Out In Tears On Camera Recounting Heart-Wrenching Shelter Story

There are thousands of shelters for animals in the United States dedicated to locating families for dogs that will be put to sleep otherwise. Marley's Mutts Dog Rescue is one of these shelters.

Volunteers and staff members spend hours of their time working to care for sick, neglected, and injured animals. The goal of Marley's Mutts is to rehabilitate the dogs and find a home for them.

The job is a rewarding one for the most part. But there are days when dedicated animal advocates like Heather shed tears over the despair and defeat they feel.

Heather, who is a dedicated worker at Marley's Mutts, was seen recently sitting on the floor holding a dog against her chest. She was crying over an incident that took place earlier in the day at the shelter.

Heather says her sadness began when the man who was responsible for euthanizing the dogs at the shelter approached her and another shelter worker. The other worker, Lucy, asked the man if she could see the list of dogs that needed to be euthanized that day. The man informed her he started work early that day and was already finished.

His words caused Heather much discomfort. She says the realization of what happens to thousands of dogs and cats across the country each day hit her hard at that moment. Heather expressed sorrow at the fact that so many people breed dogs themselves or pay large amounts of money for certain dog breeds when so many dogs are available at shelters.

Heather says the situation causes her to feel she and other shelter workers are not doing their job of raising awareness for shelter dogs well enough. She expressed a feeling that if they were doing a good job so many shelter animals would not be euthanized.

Heather feels being a good human means taking care of the animals. She also feels we are failing the animals at this time.

Heather generally concentrates on the future of at-risk dogs and does not spend much time fretting about situations beyond her control. But on this day, she could not help but express her feelings about an issue so close to her heart.
