Angry Teen Spends Six Years Digging Hole After Argument With His Mom, Videos Show Transformation Of Pit Into Underground Sanctuary

We all have experienced what it is like to be a teenager. Hormones rage and life often feels like it is conspiring against you. Oftentimes, teens clash with their parents and small issues can explode into huge arguments. This happened to one teen in Spain after his parents told him that he couldn’t wear his favorite tracksuit outside of the house.

In 2015, Andres Canto from La Romana, Spain, was 14 and he got into an argument with his parents over an outfit. He then went outside to the backyard and used a pickaxe to take out his anger on the ground and dug a large hole. He ended up building a cave over a period of six years. Canto said he and his friend would spend up to 14 hours a week digging the hole. He eventually moved on from a pickaxe and borrowed a drill from his friend to speed up the digging process.

Now in 2021, the dusty cave has been turned into an underground sanctuary for Canto, who is now 20, and his friends. The little home has two separate rooms, a single bed, seating for company, heating and even wifi from Canto’s cellphone. The hang-out spot has everything the young man and his friends need to have a good time.

The tiny home was inspected by the Civil Guard who found no fault with the establishment due to it not being a basement or storehouse, technically. Canto’s parents weren’t exactly thrilled with the giant underground cave in their backyard, but they have been supportive because the work kept their son out of trouble. The story of Canto’s underground home has spread across the world. The boy even had the chance to share his story with Times Now News. "My parents wanted me to change clothes to go to the village, but I wanted to wear the tracksuit that I liked to wear at home so I could mess around in the village,” explained Canto. "They told me I could not go out dressed like this and I said: 'No worries, I can entertain myself,’ and I went to the back of the property and started to dig a hole."

When the authorities came to check out the cave they found no fault with it. Canto said to Daily Mail: “As I am the first person in Spain doing something like this, when the Civil Guard arrived there was not a specific report for that. It was not a basement, neither was it a storehouse, it was only a well-built underground hut.”

The young man couldn’t be prouder of his little home and he isn’t done expanding yet. Canto shared: “It's great, I have everything I need. It can be tiring to work here as it is wet and there is not much air going around, but I have found my own motivation to keep on digging every day.”

Canto also said that building forts like this has always been a hobby for him. “I have always liked to build little huts. I live in the countryside and often when I found abandoned wood there, I would build a nice house. I was a kid with a lot of imagination. I did not want to be on the ground anymore but in the air. The last evolution was the underground hut,” he told Daily Mail.
