Angelina Jolie is an American actress, filmmaker and humanitarian. She has starred in many different films throughout her career but had her first leading role in 1995 in "Hackers." Jolie then went on to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1999 for her performance in "Girl, Interrupted." One of her best-known roles came in 2001 when she played Lara Croft in "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider." The role cemented Jolie as an action star in Hollywood and she went on to star in several more action movies throughout the early 2000s.

The actress is also known for her extensive work with the United Nations, primarily as a special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Jolie has participated in over a dozen field missions around the world, visiting refugee camps and warzones in countries like Tanzania, Syria, Sudan and Afghanistan. She is also an advocate for conservation, education as well as children's and women's rights.

Another important role in Jolie's life is being a mother. She shares six children with her ex-husband Brad Pitt and life at home has kept her very busy. Three of her children were adopted internationally and her eldest son, Maddox, just graduated from high school. Jolie lives with her children, Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax. Vivienne and Knox, in what used to be Cecil B. DeMille's mansion in Los Feliz, California. The attentive mother bought the home in 2017 for $25 million partly because it is only 5 minutes away from Pitt's residence.

In 2021, Jolie was working with the UN for over two decades. She shared with Vogue, "I started in my early twenties, putting on my boots and backpack, and going out to try and figure out what was going on in the world."

The actress explained how she has changed through her work with refugees. "I went through a phase of being so shocked and angry about a system that tolerates millions of people being displaced by war, genocide and persecution. I'm still just as angry about injustice, but whereas my younger self wanted to tear down the system, I've learned I have to fight to try to change it from within," Jolie said.

The mother of six has been through a lot since her separation from Pitt in September 2016. She said

"The past few years have been pretty hard. I've been focusing on healing our family. It's slowly coming back, like the ice melting and the blood returning to my body. But I'm not there. I'm not there yet. But I hope to be. I'm planning on it. I do like being older. I feel much more comfortable in my forties than I did when I was younger. Maybe because… I don't know… maybe because my mom didn't live very long, so there's something about age that feels like a victory instead of a sadness for me."

Jolie continued, "I'm looking forward to my fifties… Though we were on the trampoline the other day, and the children said, 'No, Mom, don't do that. You'll hurt yourself.' And I thought, 'God, isn't that funny?' There was a day when I was an action star, and now the kids are telling me to get off the trampoline because I'll hurt myself."

Jolie and her kids live in a beautiful mansion in Los Feliz that used to belong to Cecil B. DeMille. The home was purchased for $25 million and has six bedrooms and ten bathrooms, along with over 2 acres of land and two swimming pools. There is plenty of space for the family to spread out. Jolie described the home, saying

"I wanted it to be close to their dad, who is only five minutes away. I felt a little pressure moving in. Like I had snuck into where DeMille and Chaplin would hang out. I love most that there is no entertainment room, but lots of pathways and places to walk and think. I feel very fortunate we have that at this time."

Jolie has gotten used to being a mom but has not yet adapted to being a stay-at-home mom. She much prefers keeping busy, which suits her career. "Well, I was never very good at sitting still. Even though I wanted to have many children and be a mom, I always imagined it kind of like Jane Goodall, traveling in the middle of the jungle somewhere. I didn't imagine it in that true, traditional sense. I feel like I'm lacking in all the skills to be a traditional stay-at-home mom," Jolie shared.

Speaking about her kids, Jolie also said, "Well, I love them. I feel like we're such a team. It may sound clichéd, but you love and you try, and even if you burn the eggs, that doesn't matter in the end. But also, you've met our kids. They're pretty capable."
