Angela Lansbury is a multi-award winning actress who has had a successful career on broadway, television, and the silver screen spanning over seven decades. She’ll be turning 95 at the end of the year—and she looks wonderful. Let’s take a look at some of her accomplishments.

Her Most Famous Role

You may know Angela from her long-running series Murder, She Wrote. In it, she plays a widowed author named Jessica Fletcher who likes to solve murder cases. Her show debuted in 1984 and ended in 1996, lasting 12 seasons.

Undoubtedly, this is one of her best-known performances but she had already accomplished a great deal before acting in this series.

Her Award-Winning Work

Prior to working on Murder, She Wrote, Angela had great success on Broadway. Her first stage appearance was on July 7, 1969, in the musical Dear World created by Jerry Herman.

She earned her second Tony as lead actress for this role. Her other theatre work includes The King and I and Sweeney Todd.

Angela’s start to fame was in movies. She proved her worth on the big screen when she appeared in Dorian Gray (1945) and received a nomination for an Oscar and a Golden Globe. Her work in The Manchurian Candidate (1962) also grabbed her a nomination.

Overall, Angela has won six Golden Globes, five Tonys, and one Oliver Award. Before her 94th birthday, Angela said that it was okay that she didn’t do movies anymore. Her voice is the thing that keeps her going and even though she was about to be one year older the next month (October 16, 1925), she didn’t feel like her age.

Her Personal Life

She and her husband, Peter, purchased a farmhouse in a rural area of County Cork, Ireland after their Malibu home was destroyed by a brush fire in 1970. He had hip replacement surgery before moving. Their son, Anthony, was also moved there to recover from his heroin and cocaine addiction.

This was a wake-up call for him after he had gone into a coma after overdosing on heroin, according to Fabiosa. Anthony would later enroll in Angela’s alma mater and become a professional actor. He now works as a director for television shows.
