Andrea Bocelli’s Daughter Gets Onstage And Steals The Show

Music is an art that brings people together, and the musicians who can do this with technical skill, charisma, and presence are incredibly gifted. One of these musicians is Italian singer Andrea Bocelli, who is one of the preeminent singers of our generation.

Andrea often releases music that speaks to the soul and reminds us of our humanity, which is why he also often brings out music in times of need or during seasonal occasions to help bring the world together. The holidays during Dec. 2020 was no exception, with the Italian maestro releasing new music to warm our hearts.

Perhaps unbeknownst to many, Andrea's entire family has musical abilities too. He often duets with his son Matteo Bocelli, but another is his youngest child, a daughter named Virginia Bocelli. For Christmas last year, the father and daughter paired up to perform a stunning rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" at the Teatro Regio di Parma, and the final result, which was released in a stunning video, was breathtaking.

Since then, Virginia has continued to perform the moving ballad with her father in live settings. In her US debut, Andrea and Virginia performed "Hallelujah" together at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, Florida. One lucky audience member recorded the stunning live performance and uploaded it to YouTube on March 1 of this year. It's not clear exactly when the concert was held, but the fact that it's 9-year-old Virginia's debut signals that it's only the beginning of many more duets from the father and daughter.

In stark contrast to the gorgeous video released at Christmas time, this performance from Andrea Bocelli and Virginia Bocelli is all about the vocals. There are no fancy camera shots here, it's all about the two of them on a stage singing their hearts out.

Andrea begins by playing the opening chords of Leonard Cohen's iconic ballad "Hallelujah," while Virginia starts singing. Performing in English, the little girl's voice is simply beautiful and shows that she must have already had training, which is no surprise given who her father is. The two of them harmonize on the chorus before the elder Bocelli sings the second verse, this time in Italian.

Soon after, the orchestra, who is seated on stage behind them, begins to add further musical accompaniment. This elevates the song, even more, allowing Andrea to use his powerful tenor vocals to bring even more drama. Virginia continues to join in for each chorus until the song's final lyrics and chords are played. The younger Bocelli is a mere 9 years old, but with the beauty and control of her voice, you'd be mistaken for thinking she was much older.

The performance is incredibly moving, made even more special as we know how meaningful their father-daughter relationship is. The duet is truly touching and proves just why we all love Andrea Bocelli so much and it also showcases his daughter as a talent to watch. Considering she is still a child, it's amazing to think how she will continue to perform as she grows up!

Written in 1984 by Cohen, "Hallelujah" initially didn't receive a lot of acclaim until it was covered by musicians John Cale and later, Jeff Buckley. It received a surge of popularity after appearing in the movie "Shrek" (2001) and has since then dominated the airwaves, particularly during the holidays. Overall there are over 300 different covers of the song.

It's wonderful to see Andrea introducing his daughter to the world, as he often performs with other members of his family, who are all musically inclined. His eldest son, Amos Bocelli, has a degree in piano performance, but he's chosen to build his career in spatial engineering instead. Nonetheless, he has worked on some of his father's recordings, credited as a piano player.

Andrea's second son Matteo Bocelli has followed more closely in his father's footsteps, setting out on a career as a professional singer. On his father's official website, Matteo is described as living and breathing music, having studied piano at the local conservatory, which is where he is currently studying opera singing.

After separating from his first wife — with whom Andrea shares his sons — he remarried his manager Veronica Berti, who is Virginia's mother. The couple has also performed together on occasion, including a very sweet and romantic Italian cover of "Somethin' Stupid," titled "Qualche Stupido," in 2012.

Witnessing Andrea and Virginia's stunning duet of Hallelujah makes it clear that the family's musical genes haven't skipped her, with her beautiful voice and musicality on full display. Whether she decides to pursue a career in the industry just like her dad and older brother remains to be seen, but with the talent that she has already at the age of 9, it's no doubt she'll succeed in whatever she decides to do.

What did you think of Andrea Bocelli's stunning rendition of "Hallelujah" with his 9-year-old daughter Virginia? If you found this performance moving, be sure to pass it on to those you know.
