This pas Easter weekend, legendary opera singer Andrea Bocelli gifted the world a stunning solo performance, sung live at Milan's historic Duomo di Milano, to inspire hope in current times.

Performing a number of classic songs on the occasion of Christian Easter, the accompanying video –– which was live-streamed on Easter Sunday –– was beautifully shot, and featured haunting drone footage of an empty Milan, which is still in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. The breathtaking performance has now broken a world record, with it being the biggest live-streamed classical music event ever.

According to the Daily Mail, the 30-minute-long live stream concert became the most-watched classical music event of all time, with over 35 million combined fans tuning in to watch.

At its peak, the live-stream reached 2.8 million concurrent viewers, making it the largest audience for a classical music live stream ever to take place on Youtube. The concert garnered 28 million views from all over the world in its first 24 hours.

The footage begins with drone shots of a hauntingly empty Milan –– which is still in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic –– set to lovely classical music. Andrea then begins saying a message in Italian, explaining he was honored to accept the invitation from the city and the cathedral to perform on the occasion of Easter.

He goes on to liken Easter's symbol of rebirth to our current situation, in which the world is undergoing an unprecedented event and which we will no doubt experience a rebirth after, saying "I believe in the Christian Easter, a universal symbol of rebirth that everyone –– whether they are believers or not –– truly needs right now."

He continues: "Thanks to music, streamed live, bringing together millions of clasped hands everywhere in the world, we will hug this wounded Earth's pulsing heart." The incredible singer then begins his performance, inside the stunning Duomo di Milano. Singing a number of well known songs, Bocelli performed such classics as Ave Maria, Amazing Grace, Panis Angelicus, Sancta Maria, and Domine Deus. Accompanied only by the church's beautiful organ, Bocelli's voice shines.

After a few songs inside the beautiful stained-glass interior, Bocelli moved outside just in front of the Duomo's front doors, to sing Amazing Grace. Standing dwarfed by the stunning Duomo, Bocelli's voice resonates loudly and strongly.

As he finishes up singing Amazing Grace, the video cuts between Milan's empty streets and other major cities worldwide, including Paris and New York. It's a sobering reminder of our present situation, but Bocelli's soothing voice helps to unite us all.

Captioning the stunning video, it explains that "Andrea Bocelli gave a solo performance representing a message of love, healing and hope to Italy and the world." And that's all we need right now.
