The CNN news anchor told viewers at home that a surrogate mother had given birth to his son earlier this week, and he was ecstatic to share the news.

“I have a son, and I want you to meet him,” Cooper said.

The 52-year-old also revealed his son’s name to be Wyatt Morgan Cooper. The child was named after Cooper’ s own father, who died when the news anchor was just 10 years old, while Morgan was a favorite name on his mother’s side of the family.

Cooper went on to gush about his newborn, saying he is “sweet, soft and healthy.” The journalist also blessed fans with photos of his son at the end of the segment, and later went on to post them on his Instagram account.

"It has been a difficult time in all of our lives, and there are certainly many hard days ahead," he said.

"It is, I think, especially important in these times of trouble to try to hold on to moments of joy and moments of happiness. Even as we mourn the loss of loved ones, we are also blessed with new life and new love."

The news anchor was emotional as he announced the birth of his child.

"On Monday, I became a father," Cooper said.

"I've never actually said that before, out loud, and it still kind of astonishes me. I am a dad. I have a son. And I want you to meet him."

On Instagram, Cooper opened up about how, as a gay man, he never thought he would be able to become a father.

“I never thought it would be possible to have a child,” he wrote in his post, “and I’m grateful for all those who have paved the way, and for the doctors and nurses and everyone involved in my son's birth.”

Cooper also said he was “grateful” to the “remarkable” surrogate mother and her family for helping him see his dream come true.

“It is an extraordinary blessing - what she, and all surrogates give to families who can't have children. My surrogate has a beautiful family of her own, a wonderfully supportive husband, and kids, and I am incredibly thankful for all the support they have given Wyatt and me,” he wrote.

“My family is blessed to have this family in our lives."

He then went on to say he wished his family was able to meet little Wyatt. Cooper’s mother, fashion heiress Gloria Vanderbilt, passed away last year at the age of 95, according to the New York Times. His brother, Carter, also passed away in 1988.

"I do wish my mom and dad and my brother, Carter, were alive to meet Wyatt." he wrote.

"But I like to believe they can see him. I imagine them all together, arms around each other, smiling and laughing, happy to know that their love is alive in me and in Wyatt," he wrote. He then concluded by saying, "Our family continues."

Congratulations to the happy family. Make sure you pass this delightful news to your friends and family.
