Sometimes the smallest act of kindness can turn a person’s entire day around and leave them with a smile that can last weeks. This is exactly what Heather Leigh witnessed when a total stranger went out of his way to do something truly special for an elderly lady in her hometown. It’s so incredibly moving to see what a big difference a small, simple gesture can make for someone.

It encourages you to look for ways that you can brighten someone’s day with the smallest of acts. Even just being helpful to a stranger is truly incredible in a world where most people are moving so quickly that they typically pass strangers by without a second thought.

Heather Leigh happened to be dining out with some friends at a favorite local restaurant, the Mt. Clemens Grill. The restaurant was highly popular in the town and there was always a heavy lunch rush due to the great food and excellent service the Mt. Clemens Grill is known for.

Heather and her friends were enjoying their lunch and conversation when they began to notice how crowded the relatively small restaurant was getting. There were not only people waiting, but there were large clusters of groups standing at the front door in the hopes of being seated.

As people tend to do when they wait for a table, Heather noticed the hopeful diners shifting with waning patience as they waited for a table to open up.

Heather noticed something else as she looked at the eager restaurant patrons. She noticed an elderly woman who was standing alone, waiting for a table just for one. Immediately after Heather noticed the woman, she realized that someone else had noticed her as well. A nearby young man walked stood up from his table and walked directly over to the elderly woman after hearing that she was looking for a table for one.

Heather and her friends heard the man, who was also dining alone, ask if she would like to eat with him so she didn’t have to wait.

The young man ushered her to his table, which had 3 empty seats. Heather noticed that not only did the man pull out the chair for the woman in gentlemanly fashion, but he pulled out the chair right next to him instead of the one across from him.

Heather’s group watched the young man and the elderly woman engage in conversation as they enjoyed their meals.
