Amy Schumer Documented Having Her Cheek Fillers Dissolved

Comedian and actress Amy Schumer, 40, has had a booming career in Hollywood thanks to her standout performances in the romantic comedy “Trainwreck” and on the series “Last Comic Standing."

Schumer's life in show business began after she graduated with a theater degree from Towson University and moved back to New York City. It was there that she entered the theater scene, where she took on the role of a breast cancer patient in an Off-Off-Broadway production of “Keeping Abreast.”

At the same time, she also began to establish herself as a comedian who performed at the well-known Gotham Comedy Club, which eventually led to a relationship with Comedy Central. Schumer credits the popular comedy channel for launching her career, though “Trainwreck,” the actress's first lead role in a film, also put the up-and-coming star in the spotlight. Thanks to her performance in the 2015 film, she received Golden Globe and Writers Guild nominations — not to mention critical praise in the press.

Now that she's a well-established star in Hollywood, Schumer is in the public eye a lot. However, she's still down to earth and keeps it real with her fans, which is one of the reasons people love her so much.

Just this week she posted to her Instagram and opened up about having had fillers put in her face. But rather than show off the work she had done proudly, Schumer posted about it after she got her fillers dissolved. Staying true to her style, Schumer also took the opportunity to make light of the situation, as she joked about looking like the Disney villain Maleficent.

While most celebrities prefer to keep quiet on the many beauty procedures they undergo to maintain their looks, Schumer was open and honest with her fans. She leaned into the humor of the situation as she shared with her followers that she had cheek fillers put in and dissolved soon after.

In the photo she posted, Schumer appeared to be in a doctor's office with white cream all over her cheeks. She looked casual in a T-shirt and her hair pulled back in a bun while she gave the peace sign. She captioned the post:

"I tried getting fillers. Turns out I was already full. Thank God you can dissolve them. I looked like #maleficent"

Never one to miss a joke, Schumer compared herself to Maleficent, the Disney villain who was famously played by Angelina Jolie in a series of movies and was known for her incredibly high and protruding cheekbones. The comedian also thanked her physician, Dr. Jodi LoGerfo, in the post.

The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery describes dermal fillers as:

"Gel-like substances that are injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or enhance facial contours."

The website writes that over one million men and women each year choose to partake in this popular facial rejuvenation treatment, which "can be a cost-effective way to look younger without surgery or downtime." In recent years, celebrities have also contributed to the rise in the popularity of fillers. There are a number of different types of fillers that trained professionals can use to achieve different looks that their patients might want.

Followers and celebrity friends of Schumer were active in the comments section. Australian actress Isla Fisher wrote:

"You are so beautiful! No fillers needed."

Meanwhile, another user commented about Schumer having given in to the pressures of Hollywood and begged her to stay strong. They wrote:

"Please don’t give in to the pressure of the acting industry. You’re beautiful just the way you are. Age gracefully. There is no need for all this. You can be the voice for those that want to embrace their natural selves."

Schumer appeared to be touched by the follower's words and replied, "thank you I will try!" The comedian answered another fan's question about why she did it in the first place and said "something about this year" made her want to do it. She added:

“Turning 40 all my surgeries I want to feel the best I can about myself. I got lipo and I had a great experience doing that. I used to be really (judgmental) about people getting work done. Now I’m like, do everything you can to love yourself exactly as you are but once you turn 40 and have a c section do whatever the f**k will make you feel best!”

The actress is no stranger to the pressures of the acting industry. She's always been open about her weight and body image issues and spoke to People in 2016 about being asked to lose weight for her role in "Trainwreck." She was told, "If you weigh over 140 pounds as a woman in Hollywood, if you’re on the screen it will hurt people’s eyes." Sadly, she caved to the pressure and lost weight but has since said she wouldn't do it again. She vowed, "I lost some weight to do that but never again."
