Amy Grant Feels ‘Re-Revved Up’ After Serious Bike Accident Thanks To Her Strong Faith

Multi-awarded singer Amy Grant is recovering well from a serious bike accident and has relied on her faith to give her strength despite some memory loss and a traumatic brain injury.
In July 2022, Grant, 62, landed at a hospital in her hometown in Nashville and was treated for the cuts and abrasions she sustained when she got thrown off her bike. Her team informed fans on social media that she was advised by her doctors to postpone her scheduled tours until April 2023.
The American contemporary Christian and pop singer told CBS News in December 2022 that she does not remember the accident. She also revealed that she's keeping a spiral notebook with her to write down things she remembers, including the names of family members and the lyrics to her songs.
Best known as the “The Queen of Christian Pop," the "Baby Baby" hitmaker reaped fame as a Christian artist in the 1970s. Born in Georgia, Grant recorded her very first album just before she graduated from high school and then performed at her very first concert in her first year of college at Furman University.
In 1979, while recording her second album, Grant met and went on tour with her fellow-contemporary Christian music artist Gary Chapman, who became her first husband and the father of her three children. By the early 1980s, the singer decided to leave college and pursue her music career. The decision proved to be fruitful as Grant won her first Grammy for Best Contemporary Gospel Performance in 1982.
The late 1980s saw Grant's popularity rise as she continued to tour with Chapman. She aimed to succeed as a pop singer and widen her following as well and that happened with the release of the album "Heart in Motion" in 1991.

In 1999, however, Grant and Chapman divorced after 17 years together. She found a second chance at love in singer-songwriter Vince Gill, whom she married in 2000 and became the father of her fourth child.
Gill was with her when she found out she needed open-heart surgery for an undetected birth defect in 2020. Gill was also constantly by her side through her health recovery from the surgery and the bike accident.
Speaking with People, Grant said her husband "made every day of the journey okay" after her doctors told her to take it slow. She was told that the brain takes about 12 to 18 months to recover after a head injury so she experiences memory issues once in a while. Grant also held on to her faith so she could overcome the challenges to her full recovery.
“It’s helped me not be afraid and just to go however this turns out," she told Today. "I believe I’m held by love, just like I believe that about you, and everybody I meet."
During her recovery, Grant also practiced her singing and made her voice stronger than ever, especially after she also had a cyst removed from her throat in January 2023. It has prepared her for the tour that was rescheduled because of her bike accident.
Grant is also working on a new album release, her first in over a decade but she can't be back in the studio just yet until she’s recovered 100%. Despite her health issues, the singer said she feels fantastic and "re-revved up" like a car that has had "a lotta trips to the shop."
