No cow has been better named than Hero, a cheerful young calf who walks on two prosthetic legs. Hero had a tough early life, but he now spends his days running on the grass and getting hugs from his adoptive mom.

Hero was born on a farm in Texas. His mother rejected him at birth. A farmer in Virginia bought him, but the farmer didn't have much experience with cows. Hero didn't receive the right food and lost a lot of weight.

During a four-day freeze, Hero suffered frostbite on his hooves. Calves are highly susceptible to frostbite if they are exposed to freezing temperatures. Kitty Martin heard about Hero's plight and decided to do something about it.

Martin is a retired truck driver who operates a rescue ranch. She has rescued hundreds of animals including dogs, cats, goats, horses, and cows. "I get all the hopeless cases... I take all the ones they say can't be helped," she said according to OnlyGoodTV.

That was certainly Hero's situation. Most vets recommended putting the little cow to sleep, but Martin persisted. She contacted veterinarians all over the country to find someone who could treat him. She told OnlyGoodTV, "I am a child of neglect, so it hit pretty near home. I had people fighting for me growing up, and it made all the difference in the world. He needed somebody to fight for him, and that's what kept me in there swinging."

Finally, a team of veterinarians at Texas A&M University agreed to help Hero. After a long, painful surgery and recuperation, Hero emerged with two prosthetic legs. A Texas news station covered the story and called Hero "the little cow that could."

Hero now spends his days running around Martin's ranch, playing with the other animals, and being an inspiration to others.

Who wouldn't be inspired by a heroic little cow who shows us how to make the most out of every day? Be sure to pass this uplifting story along to anyone who needs a smile!
