America’s oldest living person is a man named Richard Overton. Overton served in World War II, also making him the oldest veteran from this war. This man is 112 years old and still living life to the fullest! Overton was born in the area of Austin, Texas in the year 1906. In World War II, Overton served as a marksman in a segregated unit. He was stationed in both Pearl Harbor and Okinawa. Overton adds to this impressive resume by also serving in the South Pacific for five years in the 1940’s.

Currently, Overton resides in East Austin, Texas. He has lived there since the 1940’s. Only one man in the entire world is older than him, and it’s a man from Masazou Nonaka in Japan. When you ask Overton how he has lived so long, he has an unconventional answer that would be advised against by most doctors!

Overton claims to smoke around a dozen cigars each and every day. He also loves to drink whiskey, soda and begins each morning with more than one cup of coffee. He secret is essentially to just keep living, and refuse to die. Although this is easier said than done, this man is living proof that you can keep living life to the fullest at even the most elderly of ages!

Last year, the family of Overton began fundraising efforts to help America’s oldest living man achieve in-home care for his elderly years. So far, through a service called GoFundMe, they have raised more than $400,000 for Overton. Home Depot, Meals on Wheels, and even Austin Energy all teamed up in order to renovate this man’s home in order to give him the best remaining years possible. They installed heating and air conditioning, corrected the wiring and plumbing in the home, and provided many additional services for Overton.

Among Overton’s blessing was a documentary created all about him. The documentary was called "Mr. Overton" and is a 13-minute short film about his life that even premiered on National Geographic. Overton also had the honor to meet former President Barack Obama and his former Vice President Joe Biden in none other than the White House itself! His family members have also created merchandise featuring some of Overton’s best quotes in order to share his legacy with the public.

Overton maintains claims that he is living his life to the fullest and is still completely healthy at the old age of 112. He does not claim to have the same aches and mains as most elderly people, allowing him to live life as normally as possible! Overton’s life seems to be somewhat of a miracle.
