‘America’s Got Talent’ Recruits Kelly Clarkson To Step In For Simon Cowell Following His Bike Accident

Singer Kelly Clarkson will temporarily be filling in as a judge on “America’s Got Talent” while Simon Cowell is recovering from a six-hour surgery he had to undergo after he broke part of his back in a bike accident this weekend.

According to Entertainment Tonight, "Simon has broken his back in a number of places in a fall from his bike whilst testing a new electric bike in the courtyard of his home in Malibu with his family. He was taken to hospital where they operated overnight (Saturday). He's under observation and is doing fine."

The AGT judge was expected to appear in upcoming live telecasts of the show this week, but now will not be as he recovers. Sofia Vergara, a new host to the show, posted a photo to Instagram of herself and the other two judges—Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel—and wrote: "We miss our boss!! Come back fast @simoncowell!!🚑 🚑"

Now it seems as if AGT found the perfect stand-in for Cowell:  none other than singer Kelly Clarkson will be joining Vergara, Klum, and Mandel as a host, as it was announced on AGT's Instagram.

Clarkson who brings plenty of experience to the job - being a coach on the singing competition series “The Voice”- released an “urgent memo” on her Instagram in which she announced that she’s temporarily filling in for Cowell:

“My friend, Simon Cowell, is doing better now but was in an accident and won’t be able to make Tuesday and Wednesday’s live shows for ‘AGT,’ but no worries America, someone far wiser, cooler, and hotter is taking his seat”, Clarkson wrote jokingly. “The unbelievably amazing Kelly Clarkson😜 You’re welcome in advance!”
