Ambitious Dog Recklessly Claims College Grad's Diploma As His Own

In addition to being man’s best friend, dogs are among the most intelligent animals. One dog in Puerto Rico recently set out to prove just how intelligent he is by taking the diploma of a recent college graduate.

Cristina Ruiz was proud to have earned her degree from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez after four years of intense study. After the commencement ceremony, Cristina posed for a photo with a feisty bulldog named Tarzán. Cristina’s diploma in sight, Tarzán saw his shot and snatched the diploma right out of Cristina’s hand. One can forgive the precocious pup for simply taking the diploma and not wanting to go through the hassle of long hours of study, expensive tuition bills, and grueling exams.

Recording the incredible sight, Cristina’s brother, Enrique, said that the family wasn’t upset with Tarzán, although they were a little shocked to see their family member’s diploma in the mouth of a dog. Tarzán, however, is not just any dog: he is also the school’s mascot. Enrique later told reporters with The Dodo that Cristina feels honored that Tarzán tried to take her diploma, saying that the bite marks on it amount to the famous dog’s signature.

Enrique also told of how their mom, who was already thrilled that Cristina was graduating from college, is happier than ever following Tarzán penning his autograph to her daughter’s degree. To show how happy she was and that there were no hurt feelings, Cristina recreated the incident with a larger than life statue of Tarzán on the school’s campus, once again putting her degree in the big dog’s mouth.

While Tarzán might not have gotten a degree, he did get all the love and affection he could take at the ceremony as countless graduates posed for pictures with their beloved canine friend.
