Daily Mail reported that up to the point Amber appeared on the show, she was eating 4 to 5 large portions of food that included desserts and snacks. Goalcast reported that Amber’s weight issues began very early on, and by the age of 5, she weighed over 150 pounds. When she turned 16, Amber required a motorized scooter to get around.

For Amber, eating was a way to tackle her anxiety disorder. "I have a lot of anxiety and I am at peace when I eat," she told Daily Mail, and her mother Patty, who would cook the meals for her, agreed with her and said it "calms her down."

When she decided to appear on the show, Amber had come to her wit's end — and was willing to make big changes for a better life. When she met with Dr. Younan Nowzardian, a Houston-based surgeon, he only agreed to help Amber if she managed to lose 22 pounds without his help according to Goalcast.

When she was able to shave off 17 pounds, he agreed to help and approved a gastric bypass surgery, which helped Amber eventually lose a whopping 92 pounds. Her entire family had moved from Oregon to Houston, Texas, so she could continue her new diet and fitness plan.

As she started losing weight, she began to face other challenges. She had a lot of extra skin sticking to her arms, legs, and stomach, so the doctor agreed to perform a skin removal procedure. By the end of the show, Amber had made an amazing transformation and changed her life for the better.

But once the surgeries are done, the weight has been lost, and the cameras turn off, what happens to the stars of these weight loss shows? Do they keep up with their new healthy lifestyle? Or do they gain all of the weight back and tumble back into their former selves?

Amber didn't stop. She kept going, and since 2015, she lost a whopping 400 lbs and continues to share her journey on her Instagram page. Amber has stayed committed to her new fitness and eating schedule, and it shows in all her most recent photographs. In her Instagram bio, she has written, "I was REAL fat. Now I’m just normal-fat." Many fans continue to follow Amber and give her lots of encouragement and support, and Amber has always been open and candid about her life.

Losing weight requires discipline and determination, and that is something many people give up on when they don't achieve the results they want right away. Too often there are stories about weight loss contestants returning to their former lifestyles and gaining back all of the weight they lost on the show. However, Amber continues to keep her weight off and has committed herself to a healthy lifestyle.

According to Goalcast, after her stint on "My 600-lb Life" Amber even went back to college, was able to fit in a car and drive once more and has even been approached to do some modeling since her weight loss!
