Amazing Moment Seal Slaps Kayaker In The Face With Massive Octopus

Imagine a beautiful day out on the water with your friends. You are skimming across the surface of the blue ocean in your kayak checking out the sights and hoping to see some wildlife native to the area. One man named Kyle Mulinder was doing just that when he got the surprise of his life.

Kyle Mulinder was out for a paddle with his buddy Taiyo Masuda and a few other people when they spotted a seal beneath the gentle blue waves. They were exploring the waters near Kaikoura, New Zealand and enjoying the perfect weather.

The seal appeared to be hunting something, so they stopped to get a closer look at this unique natural event.

The fight between the giant octopus and the male seal continued for quite a while, according to the people watching.

The seal would repeatedly grab the tentacled animal and thrash it about above and below the water. The shocking moment came as the seal jerked the octopus high into the air.

The startling moment came as the seal flung the octopus over the water's surface directly at Kyle Mulinder and his kayak. Its tentacled arms smacked into his face at high speed, nearly dislodging his sunglasses. "It all happened so fast!" he stated in a later interview. Luckily, he did not get hurt by the event.

As the octopus clung to the side of his yellow kayak, the seal swam off through the waves. Another kayaker quickly paddled over to help and make sure Mr. Mulinder was okay. Luckily for him, there were no injuries from his surprising ocean face slap.

Lucky for the octopus as well, it appeared that the seal decided to leave the area and look for other prey.
