A group gathered at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on November 9 to pay their respects to a veteran who had no family to claim his body. This group of people showed that there are still those who care and who are compassionate about servicemen who protect the country.

Marine Corps Sgt. Leo Stokley lived his last years as a man who didn't have family members left to cherish his memory. When the 69-year-old passed away, there was no family to call and no one to provide a funeral service for him.

The funeral home where the man's body was held decided that he deserved a proper service and burial. All of the arrangements were made, but there was a fear that no one would attend the service since no one knew him.

A few days before the funeral, people across the state called to see what time they should be there and if they could help in any way. The funeral home had posted about the service on a Facebook page, resulting in numerous people learning more about a man who was in the military who might have been buried without anyone at his funeral.

The funeral director answered calls soon after the post was made as well as emails and text messages. Those who called expressed how they felt about the man being buried with no one there and vowed to attend the service.

Three of the women who had cared for Leo during his final months were at the service along with dozens of people from across the state of Tennessee. The women talked about how Leo enjoyed chocolate pie and how he enjoyed eating while in their care.
