All five of Motown singer Diana Ross’ children took to the internet to celebrate their mother’s birthday on Thursday. Diana Ross, who turned 76 this year, made a name for herself in the 1960s as a member of the legendary soul group the Supremes.

As one of the most successful musicians of the rock and roll era and the leader of the Supremes, celebrities, fellow musicians and fans of Ross joined together to celebrate the singer. But among the thousands of admirers who celebrated this musician’s long and amazing life, it’s safe to say that her five children — Rhonda, 48, Tracee Ellis, 47, Chudney, 44, Ross, 32 and Evan, 31 — meant it the most. In a heartfelt post on her Instagram account, Diana’s eldest daughter, the 48-year-old Rhonda Ross Kendrick, enthusiastically wrote: “PLEASE JOIN ME IN WISHING THIS REMARKABLE WOMAN AN EXTRAORDINARY BIRTHDAY!! Thank you for all the love you love you have given!! Love you sooooooooo much Mom!!!!” Rhonda, a singer in her own right, posted a photo of the mother and daughter on stage together alongside the loving caption.

While it might have been hard to match Rhonda’s enthusiasm, Ross’ second daughter, Tracee Ellis Ross, came pretty close with her Instagram post that included a birthday wish in Diana’s honor.
“My Birthday Wish - I wish and ask for SOURCE - the Highest Power - to send LOVE, compassion, health, well-being, happiness, clarity, abundance, joy, forgiveness, appreciation and all the blessings - for there are many - to my human family on this planet. Sending my Love and Light to ALL,” the 47-year-old actress wrote.

With everything going on in the world right now, Tracee’s wish is more than appreciated. It’s no wonder that Diana Ross’ birthday provokes so many strong reactions given her incredible influence as a musician. For our younger readers — or for those who simply tuned out during Ross’ meteoric rise — Ross led the most successful American musical group in the 1960s, rivaling even the Beatles, according to AllMusic.
But Ross also had a successful solo career after leaving the group in the 1970s with hits like Ain’t No Mountain High Enough that almost everyone knows by heart. And later in life, she’s won award after award, which continue to celebrate her historical musical contributions. According to The Oprah Magazine, Ross even won the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which we can acknowledge isn’t an everyday occurrence — even for a famous musician. But beyond changing history and achieving worldwide fame, Ross’ music also struck a chord with her fans.
"Imagine, for me, being 10 years old watching The Ed Sullivan Show on welfare, no possibility that I could ever sing, and watching her for the first time in a culture that had no Black people on television," Oprah said in an interview with Ross in 2011, according to The Oprah Magazine. "When you first see somebody on television like Diana Ross, who was glamorous and beautiful and represented literally possibility and hope — it was life-changing for me."
After such a fruitful career that will indelibly mark musical history, it’s not hard to understand why Ross’ five grown-up kids are proud of their mom. And this past Thursday, they made sure their mom knew how much she meant to them — and the world.
