Beloved game show host, Alex Trebek celebrated his 79th birthday among friends and family. The “Jeopardy!” star was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in March of this year, however, he recently shared a “mind-boggling” health update amid his battle with the disease.

Trebeck wrapped his 35th season of “Jeopardy!” this year, he released a video message via the game show to say, “Now, just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working.” Trebeck underwent several rounds of chemotherapy before releasing and update.

He told People in May, that his tumors have responded extremely well to the treatment. “It’s kind of mind-boggling,” Trebek said. “The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory … some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.” Which is what makes Tribeck’s 79th birthday all the more special this year. “Jeopardy!’s Instagram page shared several photos of Trebeck and his family as they gathered with friends in a ballroom to celebrate the host.

Trebeck had originally said in his video message revealing his diagnosis that he planned to beat the low survival rate statistics for the disease. “Truth told, I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years!” Trebeck added, “So help me. Keep the faith and we’ll win. We’ll get it done.” CNN reports that the game show host must still undergo several rounds of Chemo before he can be declared in remission.
