His candid comments offered a glimpse into the grim experience. Trebek said that chemotherapy has been one of the most difficult parts of cancer. He said he wasn't ready for the "surges of deep, deep sadness" that occur after the treatment is administered. He also shared,

“I have a good day, and then the next day for no reason that I can fathom it turns south on me.”

In March of 2019, Trebek publicly announced his diagnosis of stage four pancreatic cancer on the Youtube channel of Jeopardy!. Trebek released a public statement revealing his intentions to fight cancer and continue hosting the game show for as long as possible. He reiterated on that GMA and said,

“Hopefully, everything is going to turn out well, and I’ll be back on the air with original programming come this September.”

Trebek also left audiences on a very important note with a wonderful sentiment by saying,

“Chemo affects people in different ways, and people have to understand that. And there’s nothing wrong with saying, ‘Hey, I’m really depressed today, and I have no idea why.”
