Alec Baldwin Says That No One Involved In The College Admissions Scandal Should Have To Serve Jail Time

Alec Baldwin has come forward to criticize the justice system’s handling of the college admission scandal perpetrators. “Full House” actress Lori Loughlin has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges in the college admissions scandal while “Desperate Housewives” actress Felicity Huffman took a plea deal along with several other parents in exchange for low jail time. Huffman is currently serving her 14-day prison sentence.

Baldwin vented his frustrations about the cases on his twitter account saying:

“I don’t think anyone involved in the college fraud cases should go to prison. That includes past cases as well.”

He does believe that some punishment should be in place. “Community service, fines, yes. But prison time, no.” The actor then gave his condolences to Huffman and her husband.

However, Baldwin’s followers were quick to disagree with the “30 Rock” star. One of the top responses to Baldwin’s comment on the scandal read:

“This opinion seems tone deaf. If they can afford hundreds of thousands of $$ to get their kids in, how will a "fine" be a deterrent? Even the current risk of jail WASN'T.”

Baldwin replied to the user saying:

“Community service is better. The demonization of wealth in this country is mind blowing. A country built on both freedoms and commerce. Now, all success is scrutinized. Merely to succeed, especially financially, invites scrutiny, judgment, abuse.”

Huffman pleaded guilty to having paid  $15,000 to a charity that facilitated helping her daughter cheat on her SATs. In addition to her 14-day prison sentence, Huffman has to pay a $30,000 fine and attend 250 hours of community service.

Loughlin on the other hand is choosing to fight the charges pressed on she and her husband fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli. Prosecutors claim Loughlin and Giannulli paid half a million dollars to a fake charity to have their two daughters accepted into the University of Southern California. The daughters were positioned to look like crew recruits even though both of them have never rowed.
