Alaska Woman Finds Baby Left Outside With Emotional Message On New Year's Eve

Jan 08, 2022 by apost team

Becoming a parent is full of challenges. There are many outside factors that come into play when it comes time to raise a child, such as financial stability and a safe place to live. All a parent ever wants to do is give his or her child the best life possible, even if that means it’s not with them.

An infant was found completely alone in a cardboard box on New Year’s Eve, 2021, in the state of Alaska. While the state is already known for its cold and harsh weather conditions, the wintry afternoon proved to be a challenging one, as the temperatures at the time were in the single digits, with the wind chill making it feel even colder.

The baby had been abandoned by his mother, much to her own heartache, as she left a heart-wrenching note with the infant. It was evident that the mother was completely shattered having to give her baby away, but she desperately needed help. She couldn’t afford to care for the baby – she couldn’t even afford to feed her infant child. However, the love was definitely there, as the mother had given her baby a name: Teshawn.

A woman by the name of Roxy Lane had found Teshawn, and posted a video on social media showing the baby swaddled in warm blankets. She also showed the heartbreaking message that the mother had left in a handwritten note. Since then, law enforcement and medical professionals have come to the baby’s aid, hoping to provide the infant with as much help and care as possible.

A Sad Situation

According to the New York Post, Lane found Teshawn abandoned in a cardboard box near a row of mailboxes by her home around 2 p.m. on New Year’s Eve in 2021. After bringing the baby inside, she posted a video on social media showing Teshawn, who was wrapped warmly in blankets, and the note that had been left with the infant.

The note read:

“Please help me!!! I was born today on Dec. 31, 2021 (at) 6 a.m. I was born 12 weeks premature. My mom was 28 weeks when she had me. My parents and grandparents don’t have food or money to raise me. They NEVER wanted to do this to me. My mom is so sad to do this. Please take me and find me a LOVING FAMILY. My parents are begging whoever finds me. My name is Teshawn.”

The New York Post reported that the baby was later taken by EMS to a local hospital and was “found to be in good health.” The woman who found the baby presumed that the parents were probably young and unaware of Alaska’s Safe Haven Law, which allows parents to give up their children at a local hospital, church, or police or fire station, according to the New York Post.

“Clearly, someone in our community felt so lost and hopeless that they made probably the hardest choice of their lives to leave that innocent life on the side of the road with nothing but some blankets and a name,” Lane said. “But she named him! There’s some love there, even if she made a terrible decision.” She added, “Today I saved a baby and I’ll probably think about Teshawn for the rest of my life.”
