When Alan Jackson performed his very personal song “Remember When” live at the Grand Ole Opry in 2017, the country singer and songwriter appeared teary-eyed singing about his life and his loving relationship with his wife Denise.

Alan Jackson released “Remember When” in 2003 as a single of his compilation album, Greatest Hits Volume II. The song soon shot straight to the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart and remained in the number one spot for two weeks.

The reason for the song’s success is probably its very personal lyrics about the singer’s life and especially his heartfelt words about his relationship with his wife, Denise.

With “Remember When” Alan Jackson takes his fans on a journey down memory lane looking back on his life with his beloved Denise. In the song, the country singer remembers everything from the beginning of their relationship up to them raising their children together.

Jackson describes how he and his wife will have no reason to be sad when they’re old and gray or when their children will have grown up and moved away because they will forever be glad about all the beautiful experiences they shared.

In the song's music video that was released in January 2004, Jackson appears sitting on a stool playing his guitar while old video-recordings are shown in the background that feature some of the dearest moments of the country singer’s life. Jackson reveals home movie footage from his childhood that shows him with his parents, as well as scenes from his wedding with Denise and a clip of the couple dancing. The video also features a photo of his three beloved daughters.

In 2017, Jackson gave an emotional live performance of "Remember When" at the Grand Ole Opry that left the singer teary-eyed proving how much the song and its lyrics mean to him. You can see Jackson's sentimental performance in the video below:
