Airport Security Stops Passengers Because They Mistakenly Packed Their Cat

Last October, Nick and Voirrey Coole decided to go to New York City to celebrate their upcoming 40th birthdays. Airport personnel, however, pulled them aside about something odd they had found in their luggage while scanning it. Their cat, Candy, had been hiding in one of their carry-ons.

The Cooles live on the Isle of Man and had been excited about their trip to New York. They hadn’t noticed Candy jumping into the half-empty carry-on until they reached the airport and were called into a side room by security.

While an officer questioned the couple, another brought in the carry-on and opened it to reveal the tuxedo kitty inside reports the Manchester Evening News. Nick later said that that the Cooles had deliberately left the carry-on largely empty as they planned to shop in New York.

There was thus plenty of space for a feline stowaway. Nick also described Candy as a curious cat who enjoyed hiding in small spaces.

The cat’s presence apparently confused security, and they kept asking the Cooles if the carry-on belonged to them. They soon realized, however, that the Cooles had not deliberately brought Candy with them.

To the Cooles’ relief and gratitude, the airport staff let them call a couple of friends, Barry and Lorna, to come to the airport and retrieve the wayward cat.

When Nick posted about the experience on Facebook, he thanked both the airport security and his friends for getting Candy back home, so he and Voirrey could catch their flight and go to New York.

His post received thousands of shares, likes, and comments from people who know about Candy. Several commenters stated that they could imagine their cats trying to stow away in the luggage to join them on vacation.

The Cooles enjoyed their vacation in New York and eventually returned to Candy.
