Airline Passenger Puts On All Of Her Clothes To Get Around Paying Excess Baggage Fee

Who doesn’t absolutely loathe baggage fee? As if it isn’t expensive enough to fly, then you have to spend more money just to shove your tiny suitcase in the overhead compartment or have the flight crew put it below the plane where you can only hope it will be there and waiting for you when you arrive at your destination. One passenger decided that she absolutely wasn’t going to pay the extra baggage fees that the airline was trying to charge her prior to boarding, so she decided to get creative on her flight.

Gel Rodriguez was told that her carry-on bag weighed 9 kilograms and was over the weight limit of 7 kilos and she was unable to bring it on the flight. She put her foot down against the extra baggage fees the airline was trying to charge her to check the bag. She then opened her bag up and took out 2.5 kilograms of her own clothing and put it all on. This was about 10 pieces of her own clothing that she was willing to wear the entire flight. She did all this to avoid the baggage overage fees.

Gel said she had no problem doing this and suffering through the flight with all those clothes on, that’s just how strongly she feels about now paying baggage fees. After she put on all of her clothing items her carry-on was reduced from 9 kilograms to 6.5 kilograms. By this point, Gel was wearing multiple t-shirts, all over each other. She was doing the same with multiple pairs of pants and jackets. She even wore a pretty hefty jacket clearly made for cold weather.

Another passenger took a picture of Gel standing in the airport with all of her many, many layers showing while she was only wearing flip flops on her feet. The post went viral almost immediately and received more than 33,000 likes and that number is still climbing. Gel joked that if she knew in advance that the post of her in all those layers would go that viral she would have posted in a different manner, rather than the superman-style pose she was in for the viral photo.

This just goes to show that sometimes if you get creative you can find a solution to a problem that no one has ever thought of before! Gel also shared that although she thought it was funny, she will never try to over-pack clothing like that again.
