Air Stewardesses Trade ‘I Do’s’ Under The Nose Of An Aircraft In Sentimental Ceremony

When flight attendants Audrey and Alexandria Chowbay were planning their wedding, they knew they wanted to create an experience that was representative of their romantic journey. The pair had met when in 2018 when they attended a three-week flight attendant training course in Dallas, Texas and hit it off – almost – immediately.

"We got very close in three weeks," Audrey told Business Insider. Though postings in different cities initially kept them apart, they remained together until Alex decided it was time to take it to the next level. Her plan at first was to propose to Audrey in front of their families, but the pandemic put a dent in that. She kept the ring for more than a year before popping the question during a Christmas Eve 2020 video call with the families.

As they began planning for the big day, the brides knew they wanted something different from what they were familiar with.

"The venues are beautiful and my friends had gorgeous weddings, but it just wasn't our vibe," Audrey said. However, a trip to the Lone Star Flight Museum, which also boasted a spacious hangar, sealed the deal for them.

"We're both obviously in aviation, but both of our families are also in aviation. We both just grew up with airplanes around us," Alex explained. "So I was like, 'How cool would it be if we found a way to pull this off?'"

Once they made their intentions known to their wedding planners at TailoredxTwo Wedding Planning, the team set to work to create the nuptials of Audrey and Alex's dream. When the day came on Sept. 3, 2022, the couple pulled off a visually stunning ceremony that hit all the emotional notes they were going for with their beloved family members.

The pair traded vows in the hangar – and directly in front of an airplane! This made for breathtaking shots as Audrey walked down the aisle with both her father and stepdad, as well as her mother. Audrey and Alex said they both went against type when choosing their outfits. Audrey, who said she usually prefers wearing loose clothing, wore a form-fitting white, off-the-shoulder dress. Meanwhile, Alex, who said she leaned more toward masculine outfits, had debated over how much of her Indian heritage she wanted to showcase.

"I was super hesitant at first to incorporate any of that because I was struggling with the idea of having traditional things while being gay," Alex told Business Insider.

In the end, she opted for an intricately designed purple lehenga. Instead of the usual rehearsal dinner the night before, the couple had a Sangeet, where they had a woman offer henna for their guests, much like the bridal henna they sported themselves.

The pair looked full of joy and love in stunning photos from their special day. Guests were not only blessed with an astounding backdrop, but even little details – name cards that looked like planes, a welcome sign that looked like a passport – were nods to their relationship journey.

Audrey later changed into a suit for the dinner party, catered especially by Texas Roadhouse for sentimental reasons. "I used to work at Roadhouse for four years, and we're still obsessed with their bread and butter," Audrey revealed. Also surprisingly on the menu: Whataburger's honey butter chicken biscuits.

At the end of the evening, after the guests had made their way out, the pair shared a dance alone together. Audrey said:

"It was perfect, and we got to soak in that moment. I was just so overjoyed that I could not stop sobbing."
