Home renovations are a big undertaking, even when you are an adult with adequate funds and experience. Imagine being an 11-year-old girl with a dream to purchase and renovate her own home. That is exactly what Lauren Nelson of New York did.

With no school and a big imagination thanks to the current pandemic quarantine, Lauren decided to embark on a unique summer project that would provide her with a big reward upon completion. Making memories that will last a lifetime, this young girl started one of the largest craft projects we have ever seen–she renovated a camper and made it into a tiny home.

Big Goals For A Young Girl

While at home one day looking through a doll catalog, Lauren found a toy camper that was priced at over $600. Her dad took one look at the model and was astounded at how high the price was. He informed the young girl that she could remodel her own life-sized camper for that price, and so the project began.

Inspiration From A Catalog

Shortly after having this discussion a neighbor of the Nelson's listed an old camper for sale, reports the New York Post. Resembling the one that Lauren had desired from the magazine, the little girl began to wonder if she could turn her dream into a reality.

Striking A Deal To Fit Her Budget

Not too young to haggle for the right price, Lauren managed to negotiate the cost of the camper down to something that was affordable for her. Just like that, she became the owner of a fixer-upper. An avid fan of TLC's "Tiny House Hunters," this 11-year-old had all the inspiration she needed. As it turns out, Lauren just wanted a place to hang out. She desired a place that she could call her own that was safe and included basic amenities.

Approving of her project, her parents are proud of the strides that Lauren has made. According to her mother, Aimee, this little girl has been financially responsible from a very young age. Undeniably, it has paid off. Aimee told WKBW,

"She has three envelopes that she puts her money in, give save and spend and I think she made a really good choice. She now says she's part of the tiny home nation."

A Different Kind Of Fun

With summer ending, kids across the world have had to improvise and make their own kind of 'fun' over the break. Offering the application of practicality and displaying feasibility for young children, DIY efforts are educational and exciting. 11-year-old Lauren simply took it to the next level and showed up big time with her renovation of a tiny home.
