After Woman's Selfless Act, Waitress Receives $10,000 In Tips

Every now and then, a person comes around who performs an amazing act of kindness that helps spread joy, hope and positivity. Rita Williams is one of these people, as she decided to turn a $30 meal at a famous breakfast chain into an extremely large tip for a waitress in need.

Jazmine Castillo was working her usual shift as a restaurant server at an IHOP in Georgia and was showing off her incredible customer service skills. In Williams’ eyes, Castillo gave amazing customer service, inspiring her to leave a nice tip for the hard-working waitress. The bill was only about $30, meaning the customary 20% tip most people leave would be $6. However, Williams was feeling very generous and moved by Castillo’s work ethic, and so she decided to give her a $40 tip, larger than the bill itself.

Castillo had fallen on hard times recently and was struggling to help her mother with some medical bills. She was more than blown away by the kindness in Williams’ heart, but she was even more shocked when she was given yet another tip; this time, the total was more than she could have ever imagined.

After enjoying Castillo’s service so much, Williams took her Cash App username and went home to make an inspiring Facebook post on Dec. 1, 2021. She encouraged her friends, family members and anyone else who may have seen the post to donate what they could to help Castillo. It wasn’t long before Williams’ post had drawn in close to $10,000 to give as a tip to the wonderful waitress.

Speaking with Inside Edition, Williams explained how she received amazing customer service from Castillo when she was out for a meal at IHOP, turning her $30 meal into a beautiful moment. Williams first left a $20 tip, then decided to leave another $20, before finally asking for Castillo’s Cash App information to leave a generous $500 tip. Castillo denied the offer at first but ultimately gave into Williams’ sweet request.

Afterward, she posted on Facebook, asking others to show their support for Castillo as well. Castillo was planning on quitting her job because she couldn’t afford to pay for a rideshare or for her daughter’s daycare. Within just 20 minutes, the notifications started piling in with people saying that they happily donated, according to Inside Edition

“I hear the notifications,” Castillo said. “I don’t usually get cash apps. I didn’t know what was going on.” One single act of kindness quickly snowballed, resulting in the best surprise Castillo could have received. The waitress was overwhelmed with emotions when she saw that the total came to about $10,000. It was money that she desperately needed. “My mom is sick,” Castillo said. “She just got out of the hospital Thanksgiving day. Her medicine and hospital bills. And I can finally help with that. It’s hard.”

Both Castillo and Williams were blown away by the overwhelming amount of responses they received from Williams’ post, showing that there is no end to the amount of kindness and generosity people have in their hearts. “I am beyond happy for Jazmine,” Williams said. “I don’t think it could’ve happened to a better person.”
