Kate Winslet is one of the more well-known stars of today thanks to her iconic role as Rose on "Titanic." The late 90s flick is one of the top-grossing movies of all time and remains in the hearts of every romantic in the world. The movie put both Winslet and her co-star, Leonardo DiCaprio, on the map, and both stars were propelled into an illustrious career afterward. While DiCaprio has gone on to star in multiple critically acclaimed Hollywood movies throughout his life, Winslet has been more discerning of the movies she chose.
This isn't to say that Winslet's career has been any less distinguished. The actress has received many accolades throughout her career including an Academy Award, Grammy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards and more. Most recently, Winslet has been starring in the HBO mini-series "Mare of Easttown," where she plays Mare Sheehan, a police detective who Winslet described as a "wildly flawed, messy, broken, fragmented, difficult woman."
The "Mare Of Easttown" is a murder mystery with many themes such as grief, the opioid crisis, small-town life but also as Winslet essentially describes it, as being "about mothers protecting their children at all costs, and the lengths that a parent will go to in order to protect their children."
While talking about the show, Winslet, mother of three, also opened up about her husband, Edward Abel Smith, who was formerly known as Ned Rocknroll. Winslet and Smith have been happily married since 2012 and they share one son. Read on to learn more about Winslet’s two previous marriages and the fiery way she and Smith met.

Winslet has been married three times in her life. She also has two children from both of her previous marriages. She has eldest daughter Mia Threapleton, who was born in 2000, from her first marriage to Jim Threapleton, and also Joe, born in 2003, whom she shares with ex-husband Sam Mendes.
Winslet married her first husband, Threapleton, in 1998 after they met on the set of a movie that he was assistant directing. She has called their relationship a “mess” and left the relationship when her daughter was less than a year old. The star adds that she lost control of her instincts during this part of her life.
Winslet also opened up about how she struggled with the spotlight on her love life. E!News reported that she said, "No one teaches you, and also no one particularly helps you. It's a very specific thing to ask people to understand. 'So-and-so was mean about me in the newspaper.' 'Oh, just ignore it.' But you can't, because it's not true."
The starlet was then married to Mendes in May 2003 and they moved to New York together to raise their family. As parents, they did their best to keep the kids out of the spotlight. "As a family, we do normal things that other families would," Winslet said at the time. "It's important to us that the children are just regular kids, so we go to the park, kick a ball around, go to a museum, watch a movie together or just hang out at home playing Monopoly."

In a statement, the couple shared that they were splitting up in 2010 and they were divorced that same year. "Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year," said their lawyer, Keith Schilling. "The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children."
Regarding her marriage to Threapleton and Mendes, she said, "I know lots of people who are not in the public eye who have gone through several marriages, I really do, and it's just those are the cards that life dealt me. I didn't plan on its being that way... it hasn't been easy, you know."
She added, "No one really knows what has happened in my life. No one really knows why my first marriage didn't last; no one knows why my second didn't. I'm proud of those silences."
The story of Winslet and Edward Abel Smith's meeting is "fiery" to say the least. Harper's Bazaar reported that the couple first met on the night of the infamous fire on Richard Branson's Necker Island. The news outlet reported that Smith is Branson's nephew. "We really could have died," she recalled about that night. "The house burned to the ground."
That night, Winslet helped Branson's mother escape the fire. "I carried her out of the house and down some very slippery stone steps. Lucky she's tiny!" Winslet said. "She's my son's great-grandmother now, so it's such a strange thing to talk about." Smith and Winslet's son, Bear, got the middle name "Blaze" to recognize the first meeting between the couple.

During her interview with the New York Times, Winslet called her husband, a "superhot, superhuman, stay-at-home dad." Winslet married Smith in 2012 and shares son Bear Blaze with him.
"He looks after us, especially me. I said to him earlier, like, 'Neddy, could you do something for me?' He just went, 'Anything,'" she told the news outlet. She also added that Smith is "an absolutely extraordinary life partner."
She also spoke about how Smith helps her with her work as well. "I'm so, so, so lucky. For a man who is severely dyslexic, as he is, he's great at testing me on lines. It's so hard for him to read out loud, but he still does it," Winslet said.
Smith, who used to go by the name Ned Rocknroll from 2008 to 2019, is actually the polar opposite of his past surname as per Winslet. "He's vegan, does yoga, breathwork and cold water swims," she told NYT.
Despite having what some would call an "unconventional" family dynamic or lifestyle, Winslet has argued otherwise.
"Once you reach your forties, you're just so damn grateful to be healthy...all the b******* just evaporates," Winslet told Harpers Bazaar. She added, "Once you reach your forties, you're just so damn grateful to be healthy and have great riches in your life, like a lovely husband and happy kids – and all of the other s*** just kind of goes away. You just don't care anymore."
We’re happy to see that Winslet has been able to put such a positive spin on her past relationships and is moving forward with her future!
