After Stray Pup Stands Between Toddler And Attack, Kid's Family Adopts Their New Hero

A stray dog became a miracle for a three-year-old Sevier County, Tennessee girl.

This extraordinary dog found Sima Bentley and her family and seemed to have chosen them for his own. He showed up on their doorstep and stayed. Nobody seemed to own the dog or want him back. WATE 6 reported on what happened.

The family grew to love the black and white stray but worried that somebody might be missing him. Sima put an announcement on Facebook and said that you have to prove that he’s your dog before you take him home because the family has fallen in love with him. She wouldn't just let him go to anyone who she felt might hurt him.

Shortly after the dog arrived at their house, he went from a scared stray to a protector. One day, Sima’s granddaughter, Aurora Bentley 2, was playing in the yard when another stray dog came on the property and came after Aurora. The family's new friend quickly ran over to protect the little two-year-old girl.

The Bentleys decided to reward their black and white cattle dog protector caring for him. The Bentleys took their new friend to the Sevier Animal Care Center for treatment of his wounds.

While the Bentleys weren’t looking for a dog for a pet, they couldn’t let Oreo go to just any new owner and ended up adopting him themselves. They named him Oreo. In an interview with ABC News, Sima said:

"I tell people all the time that God shows up when you least expect him. And for me, that was God pulling an angel in our yard that day. And I'm so grateful that we get to keep him."

So Aurora Bentley celebrated her third birthday by taking Oreo home. Oreo became a new permanent member of the Bentley family, where he routinely gets spoiled and loved.
