Canadian musician David Foster and his wife Katharine McPhee are set to welcome their first child together later this year. The couple has been together since they met in 2006 when Foster mentored McPhee on season five of American Idol.

They are following on the heels of other celebrity couples with similarly large age differences, such as Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, George Clooney and Amal Clooney, and Richard Gere and Alejandra Silva, who also welcomed a child when Gere was 70.

The pair married in June 2019, in a grand ceremony at the Armenian Church of St. Yeghiche in London, reports Bravo TV. Earlier this year sources told US Weekly that the couple was definitely trying for a baby.

Last week Foster and McPhee were seen strolling through Montecito, California, where they had lunch together then shopped for baby items, reports PEOPLE. The pair was dressed casually, with mom-to-be McPhee wearing gray leggings, a black top, and a baseball cap. Her dog also accompanied them on their shopping trip.

According to US Weekly, David's family are very supportive of their new stepmom and his daughters Sara and Erin even said, "we are making it clear that we love Katharine." When Foster and McPhee got married in 2019, the two sisters even said they, "fully expect [McPhee] to have a child and fully support it."

McPhee was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1985. Her mom first recognized her daughter's musical talent and her family, and then-husband Nick Cokas, persuaded her to audition for American Idol. After finishing as runner-up, her singing career took off.

Canadian-native Foster is a legend in the music industry, having written, produced, and composed music for the likes of Whitney Houston, Michael Bublé, Mary J. Blige, and Josh Groban. Foster has been married five times and is already dad to five daughters: Sara, 39, Erin, 38, and Jordan, 34, whom he shared with second wife Rebecca Dyer, and daughters Allison, 50, and Amy, 46, from previous relationships. Judging by his track record, we wonder if his next child will also be a girl!
