When someone is diagnosed with cancer, it doesn’t just change their life, but the lives of everyone around them. What led to an 18-year-old Julian inventing a bra that could save millions of lives?

When Julian was 13, his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time. Although he was able to endure the tragic news the first time, a second diagnosis put him over the edge. Julian was determined to find a solution so others would not have to suffer as his mother did.

18 years of age, the young man has successfully invented a bra that could change everything for future victims of this terminal disease and their families. Higia technologies began as a result of Julian’s collaboration with two of his friends. The goal of their creation is a simple one: to catch cancer in its earliest stages so families have time to prepare for the proper treatment of their loved one.

Julian’s mother lost both of her breasts in her battle with cancer, a disease that strikes quickly and needs immediate attention. An early diagnosis is key for the patient to have an adequate chance of survival. Julian witnessed this first-hand, which is what led to his endeavor to create a solution.

The creation of the “Auto-Exploration Bra” was motivated by the pain and suffering Julian had to watch his mom endure. With over 200 censors, this bra is able to detect subtle changes in the breasts. Julian and his friends were given a generous grant of $20,000 by the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards to continue developing their product.

Tumors alter the breasts in many ways, most of which are hard to notice in the earliest stages of cancer. The bra’s function is to detect slight changes in color, temperature, and even texture of the breasts. The bra is accompanied by an app to which all the information is sent and recorded. Women are then alerted by their chosen medical professional if they require treatment.

The bra is to be worn from 60-90 minutes a week. The future and use of this bra in widespread treatment is yet to be revealed, but the dedication and hard work of Julian and his friends is to be highly commended.
