After Being Wrongly Accused Of Cheating With Their Neighbour, Husband Leaves Wife For Said Neighbor

No one ever wants to feel like they’re not their partner’s priority. Being in a relationship can be extremely fun and romantic, but it can, unfortunately, bring out the worst in people at times, especially if they have insecurities or doubts. For one woman, she found that her own trust issues and doubts in her relationship were just some of the reasons why her marriage came crashing down.

The 39-year-old woman went to Reddit in April 2022 to confess that she had accused her 38-year-old husband of cheating on her. She believed that her now ex-husband had gotten extremely close with a 30-year-old woman named Jen who lived down the street from them. 

Of course, the woman needed proof, and she believed that she had found a lot of it. There were plenty of phone calls and video calls between her ex-husband and Jen, as well as several text messages. On top of that, her ex had said that he was gone so much because he was picking up extra shifts at work, but it still seemed like they were hurting for money.

Finally, the woman was ready to confront her husband. Thankfully, she found out that he wasn’t cheating on her, and that he actually had an amazing surprise in store that he had been planning for quite some time. However, it was clear that the relationship was tainted and the couple eventually divorced.

Now, the woman has been met with the very predicament that she thought was true for so long, and Redditors are doing their best to give her advice on how to move forward.

Starting off her Reddit post, the original poster (OP) said: “I accused my ex-husband of cheating on me when he wasn’t. Now he’s engaged to the woman I accused him of cheating with.” She continued:

“We were married for 10 years before divorcing last year. I accused him of cheating on me. I didn’t believe when he told me he was working longer shifts at work since we still always seemed tight on cash. I thought he was cheating on me with a woman who lived down the street, Jen, since I saw she was on his recent calls quite a few times, both phone calls/video calls, and I saw her name pop up multiple times sending him texts throughout the week, but my husband doesn’t keep texts from anyone so I didn’t know what they were.”

OP confronted her husband and found out that he had been working extra hours and putting the money aside into a separate account. He was going to use it to surprise her with an extension on their house on the 10-year anniversary of buying it. 

The conversations her ex had with Jen were them coordinating when Jen would watch the kids when needed. “He was able to verify all of this with bank account records, emails to and from the builder, and screenshots of the messages between her and him from her end of the conversation,” OP said.

OP profusely apologized, but it seemed like it was too late as her ex told her that he felt “incredibly hurt” by her accusations. They started sleeping in separate rooms before OP’s ex moved into the basement. “The entire time he was acting strange and distant and like a stranger to me, only acting normal around the kids,” OP explained.

When her ex asked for a divorce, OP asked if they could try couples therapy first. She explained: “We went to one session and he admitted that him realizing I had no faith in him after he was working so hard for our family really hurt his self-confidence and he didn’t think it was something he could repair while he was still with me, and he again asked for a divorce.”

The pair divorced and now share custody of their kids. However, OP heard some news that was hard to swallow. “I heard that he began dating Jen from my friend, who lives down the street from him,” she revealed. Her ex denied it at first but admitted to it four months later. OP continued:

“Once the extension was done she moved in and yesterday he asked her to marry him. I’m happy for him but there’s still a part of me that feels shocked and somewhat resentful this all happened.”

Reddit users were split on how to help OP. On one hand, some thought her ex was cheating on her the whole time, while others believed that he was innocent. One user commented, “Seems like you’re blaming him for trying to surprise you instead of acknowledging that you blamed him for no reason besides your own insecurity.” Another user said, “Could this be a case of self fulfilling prophecy?”

However, a third user said, “Idk the speed at which he left the marriage after that is a little suspicious…” Another user added, “Blessing in disguise or worst mistake of your life?”
