Sook-Jai is a working elephant who suffered years of abuse at the hands of many humans. Now, she's finally being set free.

Elephants are sometimes used for hard labor and tourism. While these may not sound bad on paper, the reality is that these creatures are trained through terrible, and frequently abusive means. Sook-Jai lost her vision because of the cruel methods of her owner. She is completely blind and has very little hearing.

Rescuing Sook-Jai took many years of effort. Joan Baez bravely stepped forward and offered to sponsor Sook-Jai's release. Caring for elephants is expensive. They eat a lot and take up a lot of space, so Baez's charitable contribution was invaluable in freeing this poor creature.

As you see in the video, transporting Sook-Jai to her new home took an entire team of people, a gigantic truck and 20 hours of handling and traveling. She had to be treated for injuries and diseases, kept warm during a frigid night and cooled off during a scorching day.

When Sook-Jai arrived at her new home, she was overjoyed. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she realized that she was finally free. She's seen in the video, waving her trunk back and forth, enjoying the cool breezes. When she steps into the sanctuary, she radiates with happiness.

Sook-Jai's rescue is truly heart touching. What do you think? Show this uplifting video to your friends and family, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
