After An Impulse Decision, This Man Was Left With A Disfigured Face Only To Find A Doctor Who Was Able To Transform Him

A young man from California was left with a disfigured face after a horrible gun accident. The shot had totally altered his facial appearance and Cameron Underwood was left with a face that didn't feel like his and a reminder of the terrible mistake he had made. But there was one man who was able to drastically change his life to the best.

Life can be hard sometimes. It often sends you down a dark path from time to time. Most of us are able to pick up the pieces thanks to a supportive family to help us through those rough patches. That wasn’t the case for Cameron Underwood.

He was a 26 year-old welder that couldn’t pull through the daily fight he was experiencing. He had all the love his family could give him, but it just wasn’t enough to turn him in a positive direction. He decided that ending his life was the only way out for him.

It is an extremely sad story, but it all ended better for Underwood.

He attempted to take his life with a gun, but it just wasn’t his time to leave this world. He shouldn’t have survived. It goes to show you that sometimes there’s it takes more than a rash decision to end your troubles.

Underwood faced a new chapter in his life with the horrible disfigurement that he caused to his body. There were still obstacles he had to face in his recovery. The gun shot had totally altered his facial appearance. He had completely destroyed his nose, jaw, and mouth.

He was left with a constant reminder of the mistake he had made.

Underwood was once a very handsome man. Now he saw a different man every time he looked in the mirror. His lesson was learned.

Life was important to him again.

He needed to move forward through his treatments, and he needed to come out on the other end a changed man.

The worst part was over. He had fought to stay alive. The battle was won, but there were complications along the way. Conventional plastic surgery did very little for Underwood. He had spent his life in Yuba, California.

There weren’t any qualified Doctors in the area to offer him any further cosmetic treatments, so he needed to branch out to the East Coast.

Underwood traveled to NYU Langone, New York to meet Doctor Eduardo Rodriguez. Underwood needed to undergo a face transplant operation. He spoke to reporters about his journey through surviving his attempted suicide.

The young man was excited to regain some feeling in his facial tissues that remained. He spoke about how great it was to be able to eat solid foods again. The doctors in California were able to reconstruct his nose. They were even able to repair his lips.

That made it possible for him to speak again.

He went through his final procedures with Dr. Rodriguez to complete his transplant. It took lots of time for Underwood to heal since the operation in January. Now he wants to show the world the amazing work Dr. Rodriguez was able to perform.

It took six months of waiting to find the perfect donor match. William Fisher had taken his life on New Year’s Eve. He was 23 years-old. His face was donated to Underwood. The surgery took hundreds of hours, and it took over one-hundred medical professionals to complete.

Underwood gave his condolences to Fisher’s family by saying that he never expected that his attempted suicide would make it possible for someone else to live through him.
