After 500 Evacuated From Cruise, Passengers Describe It As 'Like Being on the Titanic'

If you are like me, you know that a relaxing vacation is one that allows you to travel to some faraway or quiet paradise with magnificent views, nice food, and lovely rooms.

There's one thing that brings together all these qualities without having to go very far. The thing that I am talking about is a cruise ship. However, this is the story of how things can sometimes go horribly wrong.

As told by the Daily Mail, A cruise ship off the coast of Norway experienced high-speed winds and tall ocean waves that nearly capsized it. The ship that carried over 1300 passengers gave those on board a scary experience. Everything was okay until the weather changed and started pushing the ship towards the rocks near the shore.

The crew immediately asked for help from the Norwegian coastguards. Help arrived a few minutes later with the coastguard bringing in 5 helicopters to airlift some of the passengers to safety.

Despite the harsh weather, the coastguards managed to successfully airlift almost 500 people. According to reports, 20 people were injured during the ordeal.

Luckily, nothing happened to the rest of the passengers as the crew managed to successfully restart one of the failed engines and regain control of the ship. They slowly steered it to safety.

Most passengers were scared for their lives, and they thought that the ship would sink like the Titanic. Some people even imagined falling from the windows of the luxury cruise ship and into the sea. The good news is that none of that happened thanks to combined efforts from the crew and rescue team.

‘It was really windy – one of the crew had to hold you because you could have been blown to the side,’ Roberta Thake, one of the passengers, told the Daily Mail. ‘I thought to myself I had to stay calm, perhaps because I was travelling on my own I had to look after myself… it could have been so different. It was a close call.’

What would you have done if you had been in a similar situation? Would you try to help those unable to run and get off the ship or would you focus on yourself? Let us know in the comments - and make sure you pass this along to your friends and family!
