Dealing with the loss of a loved one is one of the most painful experiences a person can endure. When it's the sudden loss of a beloved spouse the sorrow can seem almost unbearable.

Winston and Janet were a married couple who were deeply in love with one another. They enjoyed a happy life raising their son together in a modest home. When Janet was only 50 years of age she suffered heart failure and died unexpectedly. The loss of his wife was truly heartbreaking for both Winston and their son.

After a few months of mourning for Janet, Winston came up with a plan to honor her memory. He and his son wanted their memories of the happy times the three of them had spent together to live on long into the future. The project they undertook would take plenty of careful preparation and time, but the special woman they had lost was worth every moment.

Seventeen years after Winston and his son had set up their tribute, pilot Andy Collett discovered it during a flight. He looked down and was surprised to discover the perfect shape of a heart that looked as if it had been carved out right in the middle of a forest. Intrigued, the curious pilot was determined to find an explanation for this phenomenon.

When Janet was alive, she and her husband enjoyed taking walks in the meadow nearby their home. It was there that, after Janet's death, Winston and his son planted 6,000 trees. They deliberately left a heart-shaped area with no trees in the center of the meadow.

As a frequent flyer, Collette considers this sweet tribute to be the most incredible sight he's ever witnessed from the air. He remarked on how well-hidden the secret spot was and how most people would never know it was there.

Collett was probably surprised to learn that neither of the two men responsible for the touching tribute had ever personally seen it from the air before. They had created this special space to be viewed from above, presumably by Janet. It was Winston's desire for his wife to be given a lasting memorial of his undying affection for her.
