Adorable Baby Koala With Royal Name Is Warming Hearts With Her Charm

In 2019, zookeepers in Somersby, Australia brought an adorable koala into the world named after a certain ice queen, Elsa. A video of the royal koala from the Australian Reptile Park has since spread across the internet, garnering widespread media attention.

This little koala is named Elsa. Yes, as in Queen Elsa of Arendale. The keeper who is caring for her asked her children for suggestions on what the little joey should be named.

"My children take it in turns naming the animals that I care for, and I asked my four-year-old daughter what she wanted to call the koala," Hayley Shute told the Daily Mail.

They even gave her a blue blanket.

Elsa's mother couldn’t feed her, so she was placed with a keeper to be raised until she is big enough to join the other orphaned koalas living at Australian Reptile Park, according to ABC 7.

"Elsa came into our care because [her] mom had mastitis and she wasn't coping very well," the keeper said in a video interview. "So we pulled Elsa from her and now both are doing really well."

According to Lakesmail, koala numbers have plummeted by a third in the 20 years between 1990 and 2010 due to habitat destruction, deforestation, fragmentation, cars and dogs.

Elsa is getting big and healthy, and will soon join the other baby koalas in a jungle enclosure at Australian Reptile Park.

The Australian Reptile Park is a hands-on zoo located in the natural bush setting of Somersby on the Central Coast. Visitors enjoy live shows, themed exhibits and interaction with many of the wildlife sanctuary's residents.
