Adorable Baby Dances Like A Happy Wee Scot At Wedding Ceremony

The Scottish are no strangers to having a good time, especially when celebrating at an event like a wedding. An adorable baby embodies this jolly Scottish spirit while dancing and having fun at a wedding in a video that was posted back in August 2009. We don’t have many details on the origin of the video, but we found it online and had to share it with you. 

At the start of the video, a young boy named Ryan stands still and waves his hands to the beat of the music. He stands near a table filled with ladies who are laughing happily and cheering him on as he dances. His precious arm-waving gets a little faster as he becomes aware of all of the attention he’s getting. The entire time he dances, Ryan has a stoic look on his face, which pairs well with his traditional Highland garb. 

The boy is dressed in a white button-down shirt, black bow-tie and the tiniest kilt that you’ve ever seen. When the music begins to pick up tempo, Ryan responds by bobbing his head up and down while he continues to wave his arms as fast as he can. He even bounces up and down a little bit, really giving the surprise dance performance his all. Numerous cameras are flashing as the wedding-goers rush to capture the precious moment.

The description of the video says that Ryan is dancing to Scottish music at a wedding reception in Glasgow, Scotland. Dancing has been an important part of Scottish culture throughout their history. 

A traditional Scottish event that includes dancing is called a ceilidh, which is pronounced “kay-lee.” The word is Gaelic and refers to a casual party that involves music, dancing and entertainment. The word also refers to a specific dance that is typically performed at the event of the same name. According to Donald A. Mackenzie, a ceilidh would historically involve a retelling of ancient stories; it was not centered around dancing and revelry. Mackenzie described this in his book, “Wonder Tales from Scottish Myth and Legend.” 

Mackenzie writes, “Young and old are entertained by the reciters of old poems and legendary stories which deal with ancient beliefs, the doings of traditional heroes and heroines, and so on. Some sing old and new songs set to old music or new music composed in the manner of the old.” This shows that while social gatherings have changed over the centuries, things like music and dancing have persisted. 

In modern Scotland, ceilidhs are still common and are usually organized for private events like weddings, birthday parties and anniversaries. They usually involve a hired band that performs traditional Scottish music and a dance caller that instructs novices on how to perform the traditional dance that accompanies the event. The official website of Scotland claims that ceilidh dances look more complicated than they really are and that the dance is easy to learn. 

Highland dancing is a different form of traditional Scottish dancing that is competitive and was developed in the 19th and 20th centuries. The dancing usually takes place at public events, such as the Highland games. It is usually performed with the accompaniment of bagpipes.

The sight of Ryan dressed so adorably and getting his groove on has captured the attention of the world. The video of the young boy dancing in his kilt has over 3 million views on YouTube. There are almost 1,000 comments on the video as well. One commenter writes, “He is adorable, and he loves the music...bless his beautiful little heart.”

Another person added this comment: “What an amazing sense of rhythm for one so young. He even copied almost immediately with the change of tempo!” Ryan seemed to have an affinity for moving in sync with the music — which is very impressive for someone as young as him. 

A different person had this interesting take on the video, “He's not dancing, he's leading the orchestra, he's a conductor.  Watch him listen to the changes in the music.” Ryan’s arm movements really did make him look like a professional conductor. Another commenter said, “He’s concentrating, such a cutie and I’m sure he’s thoroughly enjoying himself and he looks dapper to boot.” Ryan did look like he was enjoying both the music and all of the attention he was receiving. His adorable outfit and dancing are sure to bring a smile to your face.
