Many neglected and abused dogs are understandably traumatized from their devastating life experiences. Some of these animals are fortunately located and rescued, and they find happy, loving homes. This was the case for a lucky dog named Hedgie.

This poor pup had likely endured years of hardship with physical and emotional stress. He was finally pulled out of that horrendous environment and rescued by a boy. According to the boy, there was an immediate connection between him and the dog.

This boy, Mason, did not hesitate to adopt the dog right away. Mason give the dog his adorable name, Hedgie. He also did much more than that.

When Mason brought Hedgie into his home, the frightened dog immediately sought shelter under a table. He stayed, cowering in this location for a full day. Mason wanted to give him time to acclimate to his new environment, but it became clear that Hedgie was too scared to move.

Mason refused to let his new dog remain frightened overnight. He scooped Hedgie up and carried him to bed with him. Hedgie must have quickly learned that he had nothing to fear in Mason’s care. By the time Mason woke up the next morning, he could see the transformation in Hedgie.

Mason and Hedgie developed a strong bond that is similar to what brothers share. They became almost inseparable and thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company. However, life continued to have its low points for this cute dog.

The boy noticed that Hedgie had developed unusual and concerning behavior. He began showing signs of struggle when walking and eating. Ultimately, the vet diagnosed him with megaesophagus, which essentially means that the muscles in Hedgie’s esophagus were not functioning properly.

Mason refused to let this challenge get in their way. He creatively designed a special chair where Hedgie could sit when eating and drinking. This chair placed the dog in an ideal position to help him swallow properly, and it worked like a charm.

While some people may say that Hedgie was lucky to find a loving owner like Mason, Mason likely feels the same way about Hedgie. Do you have an unbreakable bond with your pet? Tell us more about your story in the space below.
