British singer Adele became an international superstar for her singing and songwriting and has consistently provided hit after hit since the early 2000s. Today, she has been in the news for many things along from her music, which included her dramatic weight loss.

Over the last couple of years, Adele has focused on her family, especially her son Angelo Adkins, and her own health. The singer decided to take a huge leap forward regarding her health and lost almost 100 pounds. Adele's weight loss was a shock to fans and media outlets, as she hadn't posted a photo of herself in months and then suddenly came out to show off her incredible new figure. Motivated to get healthy so that she could be a better mother to her son, Adele's weight loss journey is one that has seemed to make the singer extremely happy, healthy and confident.

Not only has she touted the benefits of getting fit, but she's also been outspoken on other practices that have helped her to feel grounded and grow as a person. In 2020, she was vocal about author Glennon Doyle's book "Untamed: Stop Pleasing, Start Living" and how it helped her to live a better and more authentic life.

In the television special "Adele One Night Only," Adele performed some new and unheard songs from her new studio album 30, while also performing older hits from her previous albums. Her performances were interspersed with interviews with Oprah Winfrey, which gave fans a lot of insight into the singer's life. One of the most important issues she addressed was other people's reaction to her weight loss.

During the television special "Adele One Night Only," Adele opened up about a lot of things to Winfrey, one of which included how other people reacted to her news of her weight loss earlier in 2021. When Winfrey asked Adele for a response to some fans feeling “betrayed” by her weight loss, the long-time advocate for body positivity didn’t pull any punches and answered very directly.

“I feel bad if anyone feels horrible about themselves but that’s not my job. I’m trying to sort my own life out,” Adele told Winfrey according to NY Post. Adele began to lose weight and shed “somewhere around” 100 pounds from 2017 to 2019 as she coped with “terrifying anxiety attacks” due to the dissolution of her marriage to her ex-husband Simon Konecki.

The Guardian reported that Adele told Winfrey, "I’ve been obsessed with a nuclear family my whole life because I never came from one. I from a very young age promised myself that when I had kids, that we’d stay together. We would be that united family." This belief is what led her to stay in her marriage despite being unhappy.

However, when she realized it was time to leave, her anxiety took over her life. “I was so disappointed for my son, I was so disappointed for myself, I just thought I was going to be the one that stopped doing those bloody patterns all the time,” she added. Her commitment to her health and exercise helped her to overcome a lot of the difficulties she was going through.

During the interview, she opened up about how her exercise routine was beneficial overall. "I’m actually an athlete, I’m not even boasting," the “Easy on Me” singer said, and added that she’s also a "very good boxer" who packs a "left hook that could kill you." Adele continues to tout the healthy lifestyle she chose. "I noticed how much I trusted my trainer’s presence when I was feeling so lost, but also I didn’t have any anxiety when I was out at the gym," she told Winfrey. "It became my time – me having a plan every day when I had no plans."

However, after Adele received a huge amount of praise for her weight loss, a lot of people were not pleased that the body-positive singer was getting attention for being thin. Adele "wasn’t shocked or even fazed by it," though "because my body has been objectified my entire career."

She also made it clear to Winfrey as well as her fans that "I was body positive then and I’m body positive now. It’s not my job to validate how people feel about their bodies.” Shee continued, "I feel bad that it’s made anyone feel horrible about themselves, but that’s not my job."

Her response to questions about body positivity has reignited a conversation online about how people should not be policing others' bodies. Many people have since come forward with their own thoughts, and a lot of people fully agreed with her. There are natural critics who do not agree with Adele's words, but for the most part, the conversation around body positivity has opened up once more.
