Actress Rebel Wilson Claims Management Didn't Approve Of Weight Loss

Over the past few years, Rebel Wilson has really taken over Hollywood with her incredible acting skills and hilarious personality. Best known for her roles in comedies such as “Pitch Perfect,” “Bridesmaids” and “Isn’t It Romantic,” Wilson has easily captured the hearts and attention of people from all over the world with her charm, wit and overall funny personality.

Wilson was born on March 2, 1980, in Sydney, Australia. During her younger years, she focused heavily on her studies and went on to pursue a degree in theater and performance studies, graduating in 2009. It was only a short while later that Wilson went on to finally make her mark in the entertainment industry and has since become one of the most beloved actresses.

In 2020, Wilson embarked on a health journey and really dedicated the time and effort to reach all of her health goals, both physical and mental. She had always been an advocate for body positivity; she just wanted to shed some weight and was extremely happy and proud of herself when she reached all of her goals. However, her management was not as thrilled about the actress putting her health first, as she explains in a recent interview with the BBC.

Her team was actually turned off by the fact that Wilson wanted to depart from her typical demeanor and physical appearance and try something new, even if it would ultimately be better for her personal life in the long run. Wilson’s management was worried that she wouldn’t be able to find as much work since she was known as the “funny fat girl.”

At the end of 2019, Wilson vowed to make 2020 her “year of health,” according to Women’s Health. She wanted to reach her ideal weight of 75 kilograms, or about 165 pounds. It was the year that Wilson really wanted to prioritize her mental and physical health and commit to achieving her goals. In November 2020, the actress revealed that she had done just that, with an entire month to spare!

Wilson posted an Instagram story that month to share the exciting news with her followers, including a photo of her weight displayed on her scale, which read 74.6 kilograms, or 165 pounds. According to US Weekly, she wrote:

“Hit my goal with one month to spare. Even though it’s not about a weight number, it’s about being healthy, I needed a tangible measurement to have as a goal and that was 75kgs.”

In another post, the star helped encourage others who might have been struggling with their own health journeys. “Even if you have to crawl towards your goals, keep going x it will be worth it,” she wrote. “Try and give a little bit of effort each day. I know some days are frustrating as hell, you feel like giving up, you get annoyed at the lack of progress … but good things are coming your way.”

Speaking with People, Wilson explained that she began eating a high-protein diet and exercising more to achieve her goals, and she was open about how challenging it was. “It doesn’t mean every week is a healthy week,” she admitted. “Some weeks are just write-offs, and there’s nothing you can do about that.” She added, “I’m just trying to go for an overall balance, overall healthy balance.”

Backlash From Her Team

In September 2021, Wilson posted a sweet message on Instagram for her fans, sharing her health and wellness achievements while wearing a bright red one-piece swimsuit in front of an idyllic ocean backdrop. She wrote:

“It’s never too late to improve yourself – to improve your health, your heart, your happiness, your harmony. For everyone out there just trying to be a lil bit better this week: go for it! Every bit counts. Every effort is worth it. You’re worth it.”

Even though Wilson and her fans have shown immense joy for the actress and her weight loss, not everyone was as excited about the star’s new appearance. In December 2021, Wilson said that her management team wasn’t happy about her weight loss journey during an interview with BBC Breakfast. During the interview, the actress opened up about the backlash she received from her team.

"I got a lot of pushback from my own team, actually, here in Hollywood, when I said, 'OK, I'm going to do this ‘Year of Health,’” Wilson said. "And they were like, 'Why? Why would you want to do that?' Because I was earning millions of dollars being the funny fat girl and being that person."

Wilson explained that she felt confident in her skin but knew that some of her emotional eating behaviors were not healthy, thus igniting the spark for change. She never felt traditionally beautiful — and actually even felt invisible at times — but wanted to make this change for the sake of her health. “It’s better to be the healthier version,” Wilson said.
